Anyone ever get a case of the "nevers"?

Recommended Posts

A dream come true? Yes. Grateful? Absolutely. It's all becoming very real as I get my surgery date tomorrow. Yay!!! But now the "nevers" are creeping in. I had my first experience with the "nevers" over the weekend when I thought about the things that I enjoy that I might never enjoy again. A NY slice (NYers will understand the pain), Bagels, Ben & Jerry's, real coffee, (don't even mention decaf) and the list goes on and on.

Now don't get me wrong, I started the post with what a dream this is and how grateful I am. I realize that this is a life-changing journey. The rewards of that journey far outweigh the temporary gratification of my "never" food choices. So I've decided to look at my "nevers" like an ex--just not good for me, which is why they are exes in the first place, no?

Never give up
Never going back
Never lose sight of the finish line

Neverending story where I am my own Shero (what color is your cape?)

I mean, who needs bagels anyway, like really? ;)

you’re misinformed.

you can easily eat and enjoy pizza, Bagels, ice cream, etc after bariatric surgery.

the thing is - you won’t want to.

Uh, I'm over a year out and I definitely want to. Lol. Cravings are real. They don't magically go away. bread doesn't sit well with me anymore, so a bagel sounds delicious until I have two bites. Even knowing that now, I get cravings for Bagels. And burgers on Buns. and roasted beet paninis with goat cheese and arugula. There's a disconnect between the part of my brain that makes my mouth Water for whitefish spread on a toasted egg bagel and the part of my brain that knows that a bagel will make me nauseated and ruin half my day. I don't know how long it will take that disconnect to catch up. But it definitely didn't go away. I'd be cautious about telling newbies that it's just as simple as "you won't want that anymore."

I am 5 days post op and had a dream last night about eating a taco...HaHa!! I know eventually it may be possible but it is going to be a while. I have not eaten bread in years due to gluten issues but I do think it is possible to eat pizza but you will be full after only a few bites. I too love ice cream (Blue Bell is like a religion here in TX) and I know eventually I can have some if I want. Going back to regular coffee after my 2 weeks check since I am able to drink plenty of Water. I do not eat a lot of junk food but enjoy chips and salsa/queso/guacamole and those dang jalapeno kettle chips on occasion and those will not probably ever be part of my diet again. I focus on the good parts to come....not being the fattest person in my group of friends, not having to shop in the fat girl section all the time, not being sweaty and out of breath after grocery shopping and being able to ride the motorcycle with my husband. These things are much more important to me than eating some kind of unhealthy crap.

WLS was6/21/2016. Last time I had sweets junk food bread Pasta potatoes and soda was 5/23/2016! I don’t miss it at all. I lost 152 lbs and will never go back. Don’t focus on what you may never have again but focus on what you have gained good luck to you.

I’m 8 months post op and I couldn’t agree more with you. You stated that so perfectly! I sadly can’t even digest most animal products or foods yet- but I definitely have cravings all the time!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
