i haven't been on here in a few days, but the nerves are coming a llitte as the time approaches but, logging on and seeing more positive experiences and supportive thoughts I'm feeling better :):) my husbands sister is flying in tonight for only one night with us.. I have not told her and not sure I will. She just got denied by her insurance. Plus I really don't want her hanging around the day of my surgery , she's flying back around that day she here to vist a girlfriend, only one day with us. Anyways, Thank you everyone for the support and encouragement!.

Tell whomever you want and don't worry about the rest. They'll figure it out eventually! 9 weeks out, I've experienced a slower recovery than others, but still no regrets. If I hadn't done this, I'd probably close in on 300# in the next year or two. The dream of being around 150 instead of 300 makes it all worthwhile.

Best wishes for an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery!

Hi I'm scheduled to have my sleeve next Tuesday May 8th. I start my liquid diet on Sunday next week. I've been reading a lot in the forums, I see great experiences and also regrets. Looking for some advice and positive experiences as I get ready to have this done. I have had a lot of surgeries in my life so having some some nerves, but I can't seemed to ever lose all the weight so this is my next step. Any advice , some experiences with other peoples sleeves would really help me as the time is approaching . Thanks [emoji4]
Anyone??

I was sleeved on 4/25. Granted, in the hospital and a few days after, there were moments when I was thinking “What did I do to myself?!”

But as of right now, I have no regrets! Down 7 lbs since surgery and 30lbs from my highest weight! I wouldn’t change it for the world! I am still in pain sometimes but I can feel it getting better and that’s the important part.

The only pain I had was the gas from expanding my stomach. That was super bad on day one but dissipated a lot by day 2. Coming lately gone by day 6. The most I felt from the actual surgery was some pulling. Had Surg on 4/27.

I'm still a newbie. I'm only 6 weeks post-op. I haven't had any adverse reactions so far, other than my Iron and Vitamin D being low, but I had that issue before surgery, and nausea; the nausea is new, and it doesn't happen all the time.

My advice to you would be to follow your doctor's plan. Get your Protein in. Get your Water in. There will be days that you don't want to, but you need to make yourself. You've got this!

Thank you for the support! Feeling some emotions today we had a garage sale so that was a project. Now tomorrow I start my 2 day liquids then surgery on Monday. I saw myself in a large mirror we were selling and got a real good look in the full blown daylight! And I know years of diets and struggles I'm ready to move forward! I appreciate the support from everyone who respond.:) i will continue to come to the forums for that added help and support from other experiences. :)

Surgery was also my last option. I don't regret it. Be patient during the first month and follow your doctor's instructions to the letter. The only negative I had was becoming dehydrated about 3 weeks ago (my surgery was 28 February 2018), but I'm doing a lot better now. All the best to you!

If you've had other surgeries you've almost certainly had ones that were more difficult--this was one of the easiest, least painful ones I ever had. Getting my carpal tunnel repaired was much more uncomfortable! Get your Water, get your Protein, take your Vitamins, and get your exercise . . . don't worry about what the scale does for a month or so. You'll do great!

6 months out no regrets

I would suggest :

A really good cleaning or organizing of your home (makes it easier for people to find things while you are resting)

Meal prep at least s few freezable dishes for your family or significant other (may not want to cook right away)

Only purchasing supplements from places that have hassle free returns (tolerances and tastes may change)

Make friends with time (you may need to live on a schedule for a while, from eating and drinking schedules to making time for exercise and sleep)

Take plenty of before and after full body selfies (body dysmorphia is real)

NEVER NEVER NEVER base your progress on anyone elses journey

Congrats!

Brilliant! Should be handed out with the educational materials before surgery!

Just take it one day at a time. For me, the 2 week pre-op liquid diet was the hardest. I was miserable. After a couple of rough post-op days, it honestly has been a breeze for me. Listen to you Doctor and Nutritionists, stick to the plan and all will be well. Best of luck!

Anyone??

Post-op four days. The second and third day after surgery were the toughest for me. The stomach is swollen and healing, and the medications aren’t as effective. Yesterday was really rough, but amazingly, today felt much better! It gets better!

Yes I'm on liquids toady and tomorrow only 2 days I guess I'm lucky! Although I don't like the bone broths or the Protein clear drinks. Just popsicles and Jello and Water , and Vitamin water. I feel bad for the 2 week plan, liquid diet people :( I guess it depends on the doctor. Some on hear say they can do all protein leading up to surgery. Better to have a easy surgery. :)

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
