I’m headed to Amazon right now and looking up these drinks. I seriously don’t think I can choke down one more shake. I was on 5 shakes a day for the week before surgery and that’s all. Nothing else so I’m done with them!!! Thanks for the suggestion!!! And you may have to send me some quiche!😜

Good luck!! Our friend also told us that The Vitamin Shoppe will price match.

I am honestly not really counting water/liquid intake. As long as I'm peeing I take it that I'm getting enough fluids. The Protein I am tracking and so far today I've had about 30 grams of my 60-80 goal. I am burping as well and the gurgling was non stop until today. There are time when I sip and I feel this tightness in my tummy as the Fluid goes down. Its not all the time but I stop for about 15 to 20 minutes until I try sipping again. This may be TMI but I have gone #2 maybe like 4 times already and its been very watery. My incisions are starting to itch today as well (No drainage). I also have been cooking for my daughter and husband and it made me a little sad that I couldn't eat lol I have to keep reminding myself that this liquids stage is only temporary.

Hi

I am going to see the dietitian today, hopefully I will be able to move on to Soups etc. I have very similar symptoms to you, tightness of tummy, gurgling and the #2 watery stool. (Is this normal? )

It is so worrying not knowing if my body is healing correctly.

both Constipation and runny stools are common in the early weeks when you are having just liquids/purees, usually very little fibre (though you can add benefibre to lots of liquids, I add it to my Decaf coffee and will start adding it to my soups). Some people get the runs from the artificial highly processed ingredients in the Protein Shakes too,

I can’t WAIT for a flipping scrambled egg!!!!! How long before you were cleared to the purée stage? I have my week post op visit on Monday. Fingers crossed!!

One week of liquids post surgery, weeks 2-4 soft diet (eggs, tuna, canned chicken, over cooked meats, over cooked veggies, oatmeal, reduced fat cheese, etc.), week 5 and beyond sleeve diet. My husband and I have post op appointments Tues. His 6 week and my 1 week F/U. Good luck Monday and keep us posted.

Surgery was 5/17. The first night was hard! I had shoulder pain which was hindering any significant sleep. Apparently, one type of pain that is unique to laparoscopy is the post laparoscopy shoulder pain due to the phrenic nerve irritation to the diaphragm caused by the CO2 gas that remains in the abdomen at the end of the procedure. When the patient sits up, the gas moves upwards to the diaphragm and irritates the shoulder. The only cure I found was a heating pad on my shoulders, after finding that I was finally able to sleep for 7 hours ... BIG IMPROVEMENT!

Gas pain seems minimal, but I did find a secret "button" between my breasts (on my sternum), that when pushed seems to help release the gas. Don't ask how I figured that out ... WEIRD! lol

I am taking one pill at a time and it seems to take most of the day to get them all down. No nausea so far, but I am taking meds for that as well. They also fixed my hiatal hernia while in surgery so I haven't had any heartburn, but to be fair I'm not taking in much of anything ... Water and Vitamin water (the Jello was sickly sweet and hard to get down). I am still peeing so I hope I am getting enough water.

I am walking as much as I can, but I do have a pain (the top right quadrant of my abdomen), but it isn't associated with any of my incisions, which is weird and I will ask my doctor about it at my 1-week appointment.

I have decided to only weigh myself once per week, the fluctuations drive me nuts. But I still have water weight from surgery and am still not back to my surgery weight, even though I've had nothing but liquids.

Ok have to share an alternative to Protein shakes...protein pudding. I read a recipe somewhere on BariatricPal and wanted to share. 16oz cottage cheese, 1 package sugar free pudding, 1 serving Protein Powder and 8oz whipped topping. Add cottage cheese, pudding mix and protein power to food processor and blend. Fold in whipped cream. Chill and enjoy in 4oz portions. My tummy and I are in heaven right now. My husband tried it and said that it made his stomach sick.

Congratulations and hang in there Bunny1975. You’ve got a family of supporters here. When I need a reminder of why I’m doing this I look at before and after photos of people who have seen sleeve success. My weight has been a roller coaster my entire life and I’m ready to embrace my new body. In fact my husband and I are on this journey together. He was sleeved 5 weeks before me. We talk all the time about the new adventures we will enjoy together as a couple and with our girls. Dare to dream. Make a list of everything holding you back currently then make a list of your victories when they are achieved.

I'm currently having a second Decaf coffee for the day (rare for me) to try out the new Peptipro collagen Hydrolysate Protein supplement that delivered this morning. 15g dissolves in hot or cold liquids for +14.5g protein without taste or texture, much like my benefibre soluble fibre supplement. Now my morning decaff coffee will deliver 20g protein! (and bonus, the collagen helps improve skin elasticity!).

Hi Taoz

i hope the new protein tasted ok. Let me know if you can taste anything. I ended up throwing my huge $90 container of Bodiez unsweetened protein powder out due to the weird aftertaste. Nothing would disguise it. I really wish someone would create a protein powder tablet to make things easier.

i am currently on my 1st week of purees. Only another 3 to go. I spoke to my dietician and he’s allowing me a tiny bit of fish mashed as I can’t eat it pureed but said no to scrambled eggs. He told me my clinics Drs are on the conservative side for progressing through food stages but they have the lowest rate of stomach leaks in Australia. They also double suture and other extra safety measures during surgery that a lot don’t do apparently. On hearing this I decided not to cheat but ask surgeon on my appt next week if I can progress to soft diet then.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
