Three days post op and I feel nasty, but getting better everyday.

You'll be surprised how much better you feel everyday. I was off even Tylenol by day 6.

I just showered and took off the glue from my incisions. There's no fabric, as a thought, just glue. I decided to let Water run on them for a few minutes, then let soap sit for a few minutes and they came right off. Not necessarily one strip for each incision, the bigger ones came off in pieces. I've been putting this off because I was afraid I would somehow open the wounds. Nope. No problem. Two weeks post op.

I had my surgery on the 13th May. I’m home and on clear broth and Protein. This is a lot harder mentally than I anticipated. I am hoping joining this support group will give me a more positive outlook.

You are among friends! I can tell you firsthand that you are going to be amazing and you are going to have incredible results. My best friend was sleeved year and a half ago and she lost 100 pounds. My husband was sleeved 5 weeks ago and has already lost 54 pounds. Besides the weight-loss my husband has had so many wonderful successes… He’s no longer in pain 24 hours a day seven days a week, we don’t have to park in a handicapped spot at church anymore, he can walk reasonable distances without being breathless, etc. Everyone, of course, has a different experience. While my husband had absolutely no complications whatsoever I was in the hospital for two days because I couldn’t keep down the teeniest sip of Water without vomiting. Now that I’m home and resting I feel so much more human. I just had my very first “meal” of strained 98% fat free cream of broccoli Soup. It was soooo good!! Cheers friend!

Hey Justin, my surgery date was the 14th too. It was also my very first surgery. I have an outrageous Headache but for the most part am having bearable pain. Anyone else dealing with headaches post surgery?

Hi I was sleeved 2/5 and had Migraine. My surgeon said headaches extremely common due to lack of sugar and food. When I was allowed something other than Water I had apple juice and coffee as I am a morning coffee drinker and knew missing my caffeine hit was contributing to migraine. These helped take the edge off migraine, but it only really got better when I was given IV Dynastat. After that I was great and ready to go home on day 4 post op and have not even needed a paracetamol since.

How are you doing with the walking?? I live in NJ and just my luck the next 10 days are almost all rain... so getting steps in are really hard for me plus I have felt out of it... Just had a break in the weather so I took advantage of it want did a 23 minute walk.

Sleeved on 5/14... this is my first ever surgery so I am really not sure how well I am doing, although I still have pain, but not excruciating just uncomfortable.... I’m hoping this subsides within a few more days as I adjust and heal!

The pain got worse for me once I was home from the hospital...experiencing pain is normal. For me, the worst paint was at the incision sites and using my stomach muscles. I’m two weeks out, today and I can tell you it gets better!

I was 5/15. Yesterday I was hating life and wondering if I'd made a horrible mistake but today I'm feeling somewhat better. I am just ready to go home - I traveled for surgery and want to be in my own bed!

AllyJonesVSG, once you get into your own bed you will feel 1000% better than you do now. Getting some quality rest will absolutely do you a world of good. I feel very fortunate that my husband and BFF are guiding me every step of the way as they have been through this stage already. My bit of advice for today...take it slow and gentle, you are healing and take any medications you have one pill at a time. Learned this the hard way this morning. A huge swing of Water and 4 pills taken at one time do not mix. We are all here to support you!!

That makes complete sense. My nurse also told me that my hormone levels could be off because my medications were slightly changed while I was in the hospital (48 hours). Another reason for headaches could be dehydration and as you mentioned lack of food. Hope you are still feeling well.

Thank you, I can see that you are doing well. I feel different everyday. Yesterday I felt very positive and today I feel the total opposite. How are your moods?

It's totally normal to have some highs and lows in the days post surgery, your body has been through a lot and your hormones go out of whack. Most people have a few episodes of "OMG what have I done to myself???" and it's totally fine to have a good cry if you need. You'll likely find you feel physically better every day and that will help get your emotions back in order. :)

My Head was fine post op (butI had already phased out caffeine the previous month). I got hit with a nasty headache on my fourth day in hospital, but I am pretty certain it was because I ate some of the Soups they gave me the previous afternoon and evening (which I had originally been told were made with "real stock" but was later told they were "reconstituted soups" hence lots of MSG/hidden MSG which gives me headaches) :( At that point I couldn't have ANY of the hospital food (optifast has aspartame which I also can't have) so my Protein Water was all I could have. At that point I made the decision I was discharging myself that afternoon instead of the next morning when my surgeon wanted me to. Had had enough, and wanted home, quiet, my own bed without buzzers going all night, and actual REAL Soup I could safely eat. :)

I was told by my nurse not to mess with the incisions and make sure the glue stays long as possible as the glue has an antibiotic in that help with healing and scarring. How many days are you out now and how are your incisions?

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
