I'm scheduled for 4/12... pre op diet starts this Wednesday for me.. I've stocked up on 6 cases of Premier Protein (choc., van., Cookies & cream). I also got 2 cases of clear premier Protein waters. I got vanilla whey Protein Powder, a unflavored Protein powder & PB2. A ton of chicken broth & sugar free jellos & puddings. As for Vitamins I got chewable Multivitamins, chewable Calcium & chewable Iron which my nutritionist said I had to get, I also picked up chewable Biotin in case of hair loss. I also have a NutriBullet, I hate most veggies & fruits but I find if I pulverized them I can drink them. I'm actually starting to get a bit nervous now it's fast approaching! Good luck to you, good luck to all of us!!!

My surgeon said that as long as we make sure to get at least 100mg of protein in us every single day we should never have to deal with Hair loss. If that is true I am at a relief for sure on that one

Hello All,

I'm scheduled on April 27th and on the pre-surgery diet. I've ordered my Protein Shakes and supplements through VITALEPH. They have pre and post surgery kits which come with Protein Powder and supplements. It is a bit expensive but I figure I won't be eating no where near what I have been so it offsets the cost.

I've selected to have my surgery with Dr. Ariel Ortiz from the Obesity Control Center in Mexico. Would love to find others who will be there as well. I'm going to stay another day...just in case :)

I really need for someone to please tell me if sugar alcohols are allowed in pre- op. No one can tell me. My sugar free Protein Bars have them in them and I just realized it and it's after hours

Yess... It does say that I am permitted artificial sugars. So I evidently can exhale. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Do you know that no one out there in this world has heard of this like all the pharmicists in my area. That was a serious SCARE

Yes. I add it to my Water. I also am drinking caffeine free tea iced. I get bored of water too. I’m on day for of my 2 week liquid diet. I’m using Premier Protein. It’s ready made and tastes pretty good.

@domithank you! How is the 2 week diet going? I start my 2 week diet on Monday.

I have 4 more days left of my pre op liquid diet, then 1 day of Clear Liquids only for the bowel prep day, then surgery

Interesting. The diets seem a bit different depending on the surgeon. I don’t have a bowel prep that I know of. I guess they could spring that on me at my preop appt on the 4th. I am just supposed to do 2 weeks of 3 Protein supplements a day to equal 600 calories and 1 meal of 400 calories max...just 3 oz of lean protein meat and 1 piece of fruit. Plus 64 oz of Water and a Multivitamin. Are you experiencing Hair loss with the restrictive diet?

I would love some fruit or meat, I think I just want something to chew. I can have cottage cheese or Jell-O but the cottage cheese only up to 3 times a day and Greek lowfat yogurt up to 3 times a day. So far I haven't noticed any Hair loss and I don't start taking Vitamins until a week after surgery. I also have dreads so I only wash my hair about 1-2 times a week and don't brush it.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
