Hiatal hernia and sleeve surgery

Recommended Posts

Hope that all goes well. I had an upper endoscopy and it didn't show the GERD but I know that it's there. I chew gum after meals and take omperazole when I get really bad. Suggestion: Eat light with no grease and nothing fatty. Hang in there

Thanks,

Everything went well, no ulcers or cancer tumors whatever else they were looking for. He did take three biopsies to send out for H-pylori (I’m hoping it come back negative) he said if it does I’d have to do antibiotics before he can actually give a surgery date. But for now he just wants me to concentrate on diet/ healthy changes, and he’ll have the office call patients about follow up appointments.

Thanks for the encouragement.. it’s hard but I’m giving it my all. I’ve lost 8 lbs since starting the nutritional visits. He doesn’t issues with insurance either. All looks good.

Find someone more experienced. Most bariatric surgeons that are current and practice with centers of excellence...are very familiar with hiatal hernias and their management and repair.

Rather than thinking less of your surgeon for not being willing to fix it...think well of him for admitting his limitations and not doing surgery he doesn't feel confident in. Takes good character to admit your weaknesses and not take unnecessary risks.

There are lots of doctors out there who have the experience to face your surgery with confidence and competence. There should be no issue finding one and getting both done safely and effectively.

Good luck!

I'm pretty sure the only reason my insurance approved it was because of the hiatal hernia. They approved it first submission no questions asked

May I ask what insurance you have? My nutritionist said that all insurances have their own hoops to jump through. Mine requires a BMI of 45 (I’m just 5 shy of that number) if you’re under you have to have some other underlying illness associated with obesity (in my case that hernia is the only thing) Also, requires bunch of other stuff that needs to be submitted along with the diagnosis. Like 6months of diet journals, weight progress, EKG, sleep study, diabetes management, psych eval, Upper endoscopy, H-pyloric testing, blood testing.. the list seems never ending..

So far things are rolling in the positive direction.. I’m just keeping on with the program. I’ve lost 9lbs thus far following what they’ve told me to do.. I feel ready

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
