How do you get to 60g protein and stay under 800

Recommended Posts

First of all...thank you for answering my endless questions...!

I read about people staying at about 800 cal, give or take. How do you consume 60g Protein at 800 calories? Is it by eating nothing but beef and chicken all day? Lol. I’m already at 1200-1400 daily (and don’t lose weight), so I really need to go low cal...). My metabolism is slower than that of a sloth.

Two Premier Protein shakes is 60g of Protein, and only 320 calories. There's protein in everything from whole wheat english muffins, to oatmeal, to baked potatoes, to beans...to the obvious things like chicken, turkey, tofu, pork, beef, etc.

Lots of protein in mushrooms...and as i've recently learned....cricket powder! LOL:)

It's a lot easier than it sounds. You'll get the hang of it.

Premiere Protein Shakes are a really good option! As @Creekimp13 notes, that just two of them and you're well on your way to your Protein goals ...... Cricket powder? What!?

Yep, cricket powder....ground dried crickets. LOL. Not for everyone, I realize:) My kiddo is a microbiologist trying to go to grad school for entomology...she put me up to it. It's not bad!

Definitely easier if you have a shake for one of your meals . I do one for Breakfast (30g) , then triple zero yogurt (15g) for a mid morning snack, turkey or 3 oz chicken for lunch (18g), string cheese (6g) for mid afternoon snack ... then dinner!

You’ll get used to it

Now Water? ? I really struggle with!!

Some yogurt has 12-15 grams of Protein. I eat these 2 oz. packs of baked lunch meats that have 12 grams. So both of those together is 24 if I eat that for a lunch.

I make a lot of homemade Soups and chicken dishes like chili or chicken curry that have 25-30 grams a serving.

Premier Protein makes snack bars that have 15 grams of protein too. I also like to eat cheese sticks as a snack.

It all adds up.

I normally end up with 60-90 grams daily and about 750-900 calories.

How do you not? I've struggled to get over 450calories every day of my liquid diet and I was averaging 74g of Protein.

It is hard if you're not drinking Protein Drinks. Solids just aren't as Protein dense

1/3 c canned chicken - 12g, Greek yougurt 16g - 1/2c bean 6g

Takes a lot of food (at least for our small stomachs) and more calories to get there

Thanks girl! Sorry, I'm having reading comprehension and chronic grumpygirl syndrome today. LOL! Of course, with real food it's a bit more challenging. But I can get to 74g of Protein fairly easily with real food and around 600-650 cals per day. But yeah, it does take some planning!

How do you do it? I choke down Protein drinks for the most part. I'd love to get all my protein with real food!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
