Burping a lot?

Recommended Posts

I am almost four months out of surgery and everytime I eat I burp a lot. Is this normal? I don’t know if I am eating to fast or is this just something some people get. I spoke with some other people who have had the gastric sleeve and they don’t get this. Has anyone experienced this?

I mean I dont know the full context of your experience. But burping is a tell tale sign of GERD. And considering many people who get a sleeve get GERD, theres a very decent chance thats it. And near guarenteed if you have other symptoms

I had surgery on 12/13, and I am burping a ton!

In reference to the above comment, I have had GERD for a few years that is controlled with Prevacid. Since I had a hernia repaired at the same time I was sleeved, doc said my chances of continued GERD post surgery are really low. Not sure if that helps any but just thought I’d share my experience!

I had a hernia repair also but I am almost four months out I don’t think I could still have gas. I have had a lot of heartburn lately. I guess I can ask the doctor when I see him on the fifth.

I burp a ton after I eat. I think because at dinner I’m really hungry and eat too quickly and it’s mostly Protein. lunch is lighter like tuna or Soup so I burp less. My kids make fun of me and sometimes it’s really too much burping. I really do not think it’s GERD. I don’t even think burping a symptom. I have no pain or acid reflux. And I take the med for acid reflux because of the surgery. I think it’s because my tummy gets full and there’s excess air as it’s trying to digest. When I eat more slowly and not denser foods the burping is less. Maybe try that and experiment with softer meats. Try eating more slowly. I think when I eat quickly I eat too much which causes the burping.

Any time that I eat fast, or take big bites - burps for sure. Eating slowly, small bites, and chew a ton - no bad burps or discomfort. Drinking big gulps also burps. I am talking about burps right after you swallow - within minutes, not like 30-45 mins later. Right after surgery, I could take literally drops of liquid as a sip, and have huge painful burps. Crazy. That went away with time.

I burp all the time I’m about 6 mo post op. Burping is a sign that you are full. If you’ve eaten too much you will burp a lot and even get sick, or at least I do. Totally normal. Maybe watch what foods are worse and your portions. Heavy Protein will fill you faster and cause more burping.

i'm about 3 weeks out of surgery and I belch a lot after drinking (also hiccups, which are just awful) I also have bad GERD. I'd maybe consult your Dr. it could be something simple as changing you antacid meds from one to another.

Best of luck!

I'm in the "it's normal" camp. Depends a lot on what I eat, how fast, etc. Usually it only happens when I get an overly full feeling. Not sick or pushing the limits...just that "oh I shouldn't have had that last bite" type of thing. They aren't huge burps. They're little ones that seem to want to work their way out over a few minutes time. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
