Clothing Sizes

I have slowly realized that I have to try everything on!!! I hate it too. I had a dang nightmare going to costco and trying on some jeans. They don't have a dressing room so you have to pay for them, then try them on in the freakin bathroom. Each Pair. I tried on the size I usually wear, and I went from a size 8 to a size 12 in the Jordash jeans!! Gloria Vanderville jeans were worse yet. It almost broke my heart to buy a size 12 jeans. But...IT IS WHAT IT IS!!! Right, Sherrie get over it!! LOL

I think jeans are always cut smaller- especially designer. I’m wearing all my size 14 pants and xl pants from uniglo ( which is junior sizing). I still cannot get my size 32 Paige and other designer jeans up my butt and hips. I’m going to have a party when I can wear my jeans again! I’m hoping 15 more pounds will do it so 6 weeks or so!

I am built like a brick s%%%house with a lot in the rear and thighs.

In a few hours I am going to Macy's for my first dept store shopping in the straight size section. I have done that with specific brand stores - but now I get to play with a lot of brands and shop away!

Have a blast! So excited for you!!

I could live with the variability in sizing if the sizing charts were accurate. I almost never shop in brick and mortar stores but now have to.

Last weekend I bought a pair of pants at Ann Taylor loft in 14s. The size chart says the waist and hip for that style is 32.5/43. My waist measurements are 36/46.5. The pants are actually lose on me.

Can someone explain that?

I know! It's killing me. I'm a 33" waist and 45" hip which Torrid says it would be a 10 or a 12 in their jeans. I just graduated to a 16 in their JEGGINGS. I literally just have to guess at the store now.

I hate shopping for this reason. When I was plus sized I was a 22 across the board, some brands fit a bit snugger than others but I was still a 22 and a 1X on top, I could go into any of the very limited options we had for plus size clothing and buy a 22 without having to try it on.

Now when I go in a store I have to take 10-14 into the dressing room with me. Right now I currently have 2 pairs of 14 dress pants (one fits perfectly, one is huge) and 3 pair of size 12 dress pants (2 fit perfect, one is snug) 2 pairs of size 14 jeans (one fits perfect, one is large), 3 pairs of size 12s (2 are huge and 1 fits okay but sags in the butt) and 1 pair of size 10s that fit perfect unless out of the dryer. I bought them at Sear, Boscovs, Dress Barn, American Eagle and Marshalls and all fit completely differently. So far I've found dress barn to have the best fit to my measurements.

I can wear small or medium tops or XL in juniors and Im a size 12 dress.

I'm not extremely busty for my weight, tell people I'm built like the Great Pyramid of Eygpt, whole lot of sand at the bottom. Want to be built more like the old fashioned Coke bottle, don't destroy the smaller sizes before I get there. Noticed on another posting one Bari- sister wanted New rings. Curious but I don't carry weight there. Left ring finger is 6.5 which is the average American woman's ring size, right is 6.25 and my wrists are 7.25 inches around. I carry my weight in tummy(slightly) hips, thighs and legs . The legs maybe cause of 2 knee surgeries, but the rest is over plump fat cells.

Kakalady612,

I can totally relate. LOL I have never had much of a butt and my legs are pretty skinny. But...even with losing 124#'s and having a Panni (which 10 plus #'s were removed) My weight is still in my stomach. I have wished my whole life that I could have been built like a woman is supposed to be. I'm built like a man with a pot belly. Oh well, I guess we get what we get!! Right

Hi guys, me again. I was beebopping around Wally world,on a electric cart yesterday. Yeah I'm h*** on wheels but that's another subject. Told someone who glared at me if I could drive well I'd be at Daytona. The reason for this posting: they had some cute fleece Christmas sweaters down to $1, went to look them over and they say size medium 7-9, who do they think they are fooling? Was I in the dwarf department?

Definitely some vanity sizing going on with guys clothing. I dug out some clothes that had been in a box since the 80s. My old size 46 pants fit like today's size 42s. Old 3X t-shirts fit like today's XLs.

I recently bought a vintage Levi's jean jacket from the 70s online. It's a size 46long which in today's sizing would be big on me at my present weight -- but its still far too small to wear -- another 40 pounds and it should fit. :)

What bugs me is when the sizes are inconsistent even within the same store... I do most of my shopping at one store and in regular pants and jeans I'm a 16 or an 18 (most of my weight is on my stomach, my caboose has always been smaller given my weight) but in their jeggings and leggings I'm a 20 or a 22. I know cut should make a bit of a difference, but four sizes is a bit excessive.

WOW I can definitely relate. It does depend on who makes them. I wear a size 8-10, but recently I bought a pair of jeans on line. I ordered a size 10, they were just to snug for me, I go for comfort!! So I gave them to my granddaughter, they were a little big but it won't be long until they fit her. I reordered a size 12 then I took my 8's and put them together they were the same size. I hate to buy anything off line. If I know their sizes and how they run it is alright. But it is much better if I go try them on down town. I hate to return things but we are kind of addicted to online shopping!! LOL

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
