Weight Loss afger Lap Band Removal?

Recommended Posts

Well after 7 years, I got my band removed. At first everything was fine! Lost over 80 lbs, got myself to the gym regularly. As soon as the band was "overfilled" that was the beginning of the end. For about 5 years, I was getting it filled, then unfilled. I could barely keep any food down. Eventually I had enough Fluid removed so that I could finally eat, and then the weight started to creep back up. I got the band removed and am relieved. But.....

Is it naive of me to think I can NOW lose weight, now that the band has been removed? I'm in the process of getting approved for a revision to the sleeve, but a part of me doesn't want ANY type of weight loss surgery. Can weight loss be achieved, now that there's no restriction? Has it been done? I keep going back & forth with this.

JTHMom I didn't gain anything since I had the band removed, and am waiting for my knee to heal (from another procedure) once I get the OK from my doctor, I'm gonna hit the gym and see if I can get results. If I do, no surgery. If not, I'll go ahead wth the sleeve. But I'm scared to death too! Going through what I did with the band, and then having a different procedure that cannot be reversed is kind of freaking me out!

I'm in the same boat. After 13 years I am getting the band removed. I was always afraid that if I got it out I would gain so much weight. Right now I am unsure if I will proceed to the sleeve. In my area the docs want you to wait about 3 months between band removal and the sleeve surgery. I have told myself that I will go to the gym once the band is removed but will I really? Next week I am having all kinds of pre-admission cardiac testing. I wonder if it is healthier to stay fat (if my cardiac tests come back ok) or to get the band.

Hi All

I'm new on here and looking for some advice really, I had my band 8 years ago and it hasn't worked for me, I lost more weight on the pre op diet than the actual band and food constantly getting stuck has become an issue so investigations showed my band has a kink in it so having it removed next week and was just wondering if you guys were put on the pre op diet again to have your removals? I've spoken to several people who said they didn't and some that aid they had? TIA

I just had my band removed two weeks ago and I wasn’t on any pre op diet. My post op diet is trying really hard to not eat any more per meal then I did with the band. I fill up but I get hungry faster

Thanks for your reply, I thought it a bit weird as I can't find any info at all about pre op diet for band removal, I didn't lose any weight with mine I've done it through slimming world but finding diet very restrictive as I have to have sauce with things or food gets stuck and I can't eat certain foods I feel with help with my weight loss

So, is your insurance covering this? I was told mine won’t. I had great results and was down to around 120 lbs. Then I had an injury and had to take NSAIDS. My stomach got irritated, the band got tight, and I got dehydrated. They removed all of the Fluid and It has been a struggle ever since. I gained 55 lbs! When I had no restriction it felt like I was an empty pit and I was always so hungry. I have been fairly stable lately but not in the sweet spot. I decided to just leave it alone.

Now I have some sinus drainage and I can only do liquids! I have not had this issue in the 9 years that I have had the band! I am so fed up!

I would say YES you can. I still have my band, but it's been empty for 2 years. I am trying to get my band removed, getting a huge run around in manitoba. They keep trying to talk me out of it.

I had it emptied of all fluids almost 2 years ago due to massive complications. Since then I joined a great gym and have turned my health around. I am healthy fit and slim and it has nothing to do with the band.

I want the band gone. Since I am now slim with a strong core the port is super obvious and can easily be seen. It looks like a golf ball sized Tumor.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
