I've had a few while eating some hummus. There whole crunchy factor was desired with the soft hummus. I couldn't eat more than about 4 it 5 so I don't really think it had any negative effects. Moderation is the biggest factor with everything. If you can eat a whole bag, you might not want to pick it up.

Oil that is used to fry foods becomes damaged, particularly if it is reused. Pork skins have zero nutritive value, and with the potentially damaged fats, becomes a big negative in my book.

Why not eat hummus on cut up fresh veggies?

If we think of food as meeting requirements beyond "it tastes good, it's fun, what is the harm in just this little bit while I watch Netflix" then we've started to understand what food is all about, and we can make the right choices.

Are pig skins the wrong choice? On a day to day basis, yes. BUT, if you went to a pig-sucking festival where all things pork are celebrated with special regional dishes ... at that time and place, Pork rinds are a great choice!

I eat Pork rinds and cracklins frequently. The fried aspect is not really a concern for me since the calories to serving is within allowed tolerances for me. I used to count the Protein towards my daily goal, but after realizing that it is merely collagen protein, it doesn't really count. Collagen is the lowest quality protein out there.

We use them frequently to "bread" chicken breast or fish fillets that we air fry.

Pork rinds and stuff are good for coating real Protein to fry/bkae/air fry but just as Snacks? They are a waste.

I don't think fried foods are forbidden foods at all. You just can't make them a part of your daily diet. Too hard to accurately track the calories.

I can't believe I never thought of using them for "breading". A whole new world just opened up! I've been using Parmesan cheese but it lacks the crunch I like. Thanks!

I eat Pork rinds, I made sure that was one of the first things I asked my Dr. The only thing he stressed, was drinking Water and making sure I hit my count due to the sodium. A small bag of rinds has 7 grams of Protein, 5 grams of fat, and no carb's. At least, the rinds I get. Yum!

Cracklings, I will not touch.

I tried Pork rinds and find them disgusting. lol! The flavor is weird and the smell is weird. I wanted to used them as a delivery system for dips when I threw a little party. Ended up throwing them all out.

And as to why not use veggies instead? I can't eat raw veggies without getting bad indigestion. Also, I have to watch my sugars very closely (diabetic) so I try alternatives that don't provide me with carbs. I really wanted to like the pork rinds but that was a full-fledged NOPE.

Oh wow, y'all will have to pick my jaw off the floor. I had no idea those things had Protein in them! Still not sure they are all that healthy, but they are slightly higher on my food opinion-meter.

Thanks! Love learning something new!

I had seen where you mentioned collagen earlier, but didn't know that that can't go towards muscles... thank you very much!!

I've found this weird smell thing with eggs. It was literally the first food I wanted to eat, while on my post-op liquid diet. I couldn't wait to eat eggs. First one, gag!
I keep trying, but they don't have the same savory smell and texture I recall from pre-op. Like a scrumptious omelette... Not happening. Disappointing, but barely mentionable in the big picture!! [emoji6]

Why not cracklings? Are they worse?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
