I'm 13 weeks post op and really struggling. So much so that I've been wondering if my surgery was a big mistake. I still struggle to eat. Most things make me nauseous, and I vomit more or less every other day. I don't feel hungry at all and I have no appetite or desire to eat food. I suffer with GERD symptoms. My weight has dropped dramatically, 3 stone in 13 weeks. I have fainted and my blood pressure is very low. I can't get the nutrients that I need. I went to a different country to have my surgery and I've spoken to my surgeon since who says everything I'm feeling is normal? I take my Iron tablets, Vitamins and I've had my B12 injection. I would like to start exercising but I'm not getting enough calories right now to even think about working out. Some days are good and I feel great. Some days are terrible to the point that I deeply regret my surgery :(

First of all, I am so sorry you are feeling this way. This is not normal. I know everyone is different but for your surgeon to say this is normal is wrong. Where do you live? Maybe someone else can check you out to make sure everything is ok? I haven't gone through what you are going through just trying to help somehow! My best wishes for you

I'm assuming you live in the UK? I'm on the Tapatalk app so I can't see profile details. I'd go to your GP and explain the situation, it doesn't sound like an emergency, but it's worrying enough that I think it's worth you being checked for a stricture or other anomaly.

I'm having a sleeve to bypass revision next week because my stomach twisted in the middle, making it hourglass shaped. I've lost a lot more weight than expected, I've had increasingly bad reflux, and also struggled to eat much and puked regularly. I had a barium swallow test and an endoscopy to figure out the issue. It's likely you'll only get one or the other on the NHS, but it's worth getting checked out.

Thank you both for your reply. I do live in the UK. I went to see my GP again today and I've been admitted to hospital for tests. Currently on a ward, on a drip, feeling pretty miserable but hoping for some solutions. Remaining positive :)p

I have had a barium swallow. They found I have a hiatus hernia which is basically making everything 10x worse. The hiatus hernia is causing terrible acid reflux which in turn is irritating the muscles in my oesophagus causing them to contract not allowing the food through or causing me to vomit. I've been referred to a GI specialist in the U.K. and put back on a liquid diet. Hopefully they will operate to fix the hernia and my symptoms will improve. Still can't eat very much at this current time. But I knew something was wrong.

I'm sorry your surgeon didn't discover the hiatal hernia during surgery or during a pre-op endoscopy (unless they didn't require it). I don't have one but from what I gather they're pretty common and just get fixed during the sleeve/bypass. Lame on your surgeons part.

I had an endoscopy but it wasn't spotted. Maybe because it's only very little. But you're correct whilst they were operating they should have spotted it and fixed it. Irony is, the lady I shared a room with at the clinic had a hiatus hernia and he fixed hers. Only saving grace is it can be fixed :):)

Gee I'm sorry to hear this. Lost of stories on here about many who have had that fixed when they were already in there. I hope you can get this resolved without too much more annoyance.

Medicines can help. But I already take 80mg of 1 antacids and 20ml of another antacid and it doesn't make any difference :(

Definitely. I think the surgery is relatively minor as well, and incisions similar to the sleeve. Better than having to stay on medications. In my opinion at least. Can they fix it soon? I used to have GERD and it was the worst.

Yes I agree. Hopefully get it fixed sooner rather than later. I can't stand these symptoms. They are the worse. What are you supposed to feel like 3 months out? I've had this since the day of my surgery so don't actually know how it's supposed to feel.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
