Post op. Surgery 7/6. Home today and gained 8pounds

Recommended Posts

So I am home today. I weighed 253 before surgery and now I am 260 . I am hoping this is from surgery, bloating, and swelling and will fall off. Anyone else weighed more after surgery?

I actually wouldn't worry. I noticed that I wasn't losing weight, and I went back to the doctors office and I was down 9lbs. My scale acts funny, so I'm thinking of getting a new one as it's jumping up and down. Try a different scale if you must? But honestly your stomach is swollen, retaining Water?

Very common. They pump you full of steroids which makes you retain Water, then they pump you full of fluids on top of it. The xtra weight should fall off rapidly. Congrats on taking the plunge. All the best on your journey!

You received bags of intravenous fluids before, during, and after surgery. These bags of IV fluids weigh a considerable amount and add to the Water weight you're retaining.

My advice is to stay off the scale for a few weeks. There's no way you physiologically gained 7 pounds of fat unless you consumed 25000 calories in the 24 hours since surgery. It's Fluid retention.

Good luck to you. :)

I gained 9 pounds.... so you are ahead of me... it does come off. My surgeon actually asked me why I weighed myself... stay away from the scale for a few days... it is all the extra Fluid you had... I did not get steroids but plenty of IV fluid. Don't despair

Ditto to Introversion, the added weight is due to the constant intravenous fluids. If you have any issues drinking the first few days you will be very glad that you pumped full of liquid, it'll save you from dehydration.

At the hospital they warn us post-op not to worry about added weight due to the Fluid retention. I thankfully didn't have a scale to obsess over until today

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
