2 week pre op liquid diet- 3 Days in

Recommended Posts

This liquid only diet sucks, lol. I mean im ready to get healthy and make the life change and eliminate the bad food but this is awful. The Protein Shakes taste and smell like crap lol. The fact that I have to do this for 14 days is killing me. What happens if you cheat one day and had some grilled chicken?

I mix my unflavored Protein mix with sf Jello. It makes me feel like I am eating something not just swallowing.

Liquid diets suck, there is no way around it. They make everything besides liquid seem awesome in your mind, but it is only a mind game. Power through it if you can!

Can you have souls too? Or change Protein powders? I'm on Day 10 with 4 to go. The first week was the hardest. Now that I'm in the home stretch, I feel better about it. Helps to see the scale go down as the days pass too. For Soups, we can have anything relatively low in sodium & either creamy or broth. Trader Joe's black bean Soup & roasted red pepper soup are my favorites. Something warm makes me feel like I'm actually eating. Oh, & we can have SF Jello, yogurt (with no fruity chunks, and SF pudding. Hope it gets easier for you!

I'm on day 6 and hunger isn't too bad. I've never noticed how many references to food I encounter in an average day. Every tv show, website , Facebook, etc. Plus people seem to love to talk about food. One woman told me how hungry she was because she ate her wrap for lunch too early. In my head, I was like "oh, honey, you don't even know..."

I read that day 3 or 4 is the worst and I made it through ok, but the morning of day 5 I was hungry. Those were also the 3 days I worked on the liquid plan and I don't think I brought enough to get me through the day.

Today, I'm at home and I'm not sure how I'm going to get it all in. I just finished my "lunch" shake and it's 7pm. I still have another shake and a serving of vegetables to go before bedtime.

For "dinner", I've been having unflavored Protein Powder in broth and it's pretty decent, a nice change from all the sweetness.

I don't want to cheat because of my head both because I want to watch the numbers go down (lost about 4 lbs in 6 days), I want my surgery to go as well as it possibly can (with a smaller liver), and I want to be ready for another extended period of liquids only (and zero servings of food to chew) after the surgery when I'll be feeling much worse and much weaker.

I'm not a fan of Jello, but that and sugar free popsicles have helped a lot to feel like I'm having something tasty.

I'm averaging just over 600 calories per day and was very tired during the week, but I don't want to do anything to mess with the success of this program.

What shakes are you on? I'm on Day 3 today and I'm feeling tired and weak but my shakes are pretty good! I also found that the chicken broth makes me feel full as if I ate a meal... makes me think I ate chicken noodle soup! Lol

I am on Premier Protein I bought, they suck, I just swallow and try not to breath lol. Other then that I can't have any food at all. I mean it sucks. I am calling the PA on monday. I don't see why I couldn't grill like 4 ounces of chicken and shred it per day, or eggs, or something lol.

If I can do it, anyone can do it! The first week is the hardest part, it gets a little easier after that. Jello was good to get that chewing effect and s/f ice pops worked too. I did get tired of the artificial sugar taste all the time (I couldn't have broth either) so I would put a little dab of salt on my tongue just to get a break from that sweet taste. Drinking Water and Crystal Light helped too. As tempted as I was to cheat, I just kept telling myself that I would hate to do anything to jeopardize my progress and have to start all over! Hang in there!

LOL!!!!! I understand completely! I can't have food at all other than yogurt but the sf popsicles and the ff broth is a liquid which should be on your list. Double check with your pa on mon... I bet he/she will approve. Matter of fact, buy some broth and try that. Bet it takes your mind off of the meat... momentarily lol. I really like the Premier! The caramel is my fav! I also like the banana and strawberry. Don't like the vanilla and didn't try the choc. How many shakes are you on a day? 3 like me?

I'm on two shakes (i choose unflavored, unsweetened because I hate drinking sweet things) and a meal of meat and veggies. I save one shake for night time before bed because it is just such a wonderful way to end the day not starving. I hold off on the first shake til noon, but after eating it 1.5 hours later I start "starving" until say 6 pm dinner. The whole afternoon I can't function, just weak and hungry and growling stomach. It's awful.

I would never do this except that it shrinks the liver, making surgery easier for the surgeon. That is the only reason I am sticking to it. I can't have anything else, no yogurt or broth, or all those sugar free treats you guys have, apparently. This sucks.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
