Are You Still Seeing Your NUT?

I am almost 15 months post op and 93 lbs down. I went through a program that included an amazing Nutritionist (NUT) who has been a fantastic source of information for me during my journey. I still see my Nut every 2 or 3 months and don't see that changing in the next few years. There is so much information out there that is conflicting and out dated that I love having one central point of contact to keep me focused and on the right track. Do you see a nutritionist? If so, do you find the meetings to be helpful? Just wondering how many people are using this method to continue learning on their journey.

Nope. The last time I saw the nutritionist was in early 2015. I am 2+ years out and have seen the nutritionist twice with no plans to return.

I saw my nutritionist for the first time at one week post-op. I saw her for the second (and final) time at one month post-op. Her generic information seemed more tailored for a general population who hasn't undergone weight loss surgery.

Since I'm an RN, I already came to the table with sufficient nutritional information that I didn't always put to good use when my compulsive eating patterns flared up. However, I haven't ate compulsively since being sleeved.

Yes, I definitely get your point. My Nut specializes in bariatric patients and has told me that she had to adjust what she had been taught to the bariatric patients needs since they (we) are different. That is a good point. Not all Nuts are educated about our particular needs.

Yep. During my one-month post-op appointment, the nutritionist suggested I reintroduce crackers into my diet. I told her that wouldn't be a good idea because crackers are a trigger food for me.

Prior to bariatric surgery, I would literally graze my way to the bottom of a box of flavored Triscuits, Cheez-Its, or Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers. Since I'm not the type of person who can stop at 5 crackers, it's best that I not eat them on a regular basis.

Besides, crackers don't have enough Protein to be worthy of my time.

Oh, yes, the addicting and delicious cheez-its and goldfish....Agreed. I try to stay away from the high carb, low nutrition, processed foods also. Although....late at night, I sometimes try to figure out how to make a low carb cheese-it substitute. Tried it once with almond flour and shredded cheese - making a dough. It didn't work out as well as I hoped. But there is always tomorrow....lol

Quest had a Protein cheeze it substitute they tried out for a while through the quest labs program. LOVED them! Hope they bring them back! If I gain my weight back, it will be on cheese its. I can't have them in the house!

Crackers were a regular snack for me in the past. I love any kind of cheese on any kind of cracker lol. I will not be eating any crackers any time soon.

I saw a Pinterest "recipe" where they just baked the very thin Sargento cheese slices. I haven't tried it yet.

You can do this in the microwave also with parchment paper. They are good, but don't make too many because they are filling.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

        I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

        Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
