Calorie Intake Concerns

Recommended Posts

I am now about 5 weeks out now but I am concerned with my calorie intake. Is this something I should be concerned with? I am eating small meals, well pretty small, "Tinkerbell" portions. :) I eat about every 2 hours, but I don't feel like it's enough calories? I do watch my carb and fat intake and wasn't sure if I should be concerned with my calorie intake. So far today it's about 350 calories.

My nut said don't worry about the calories. "Get your Protein in, get your Water in and Then, get in what ever you can tolerate". She set my macro goals and told me not to go over.

Thank you, the Water is not a problem, getting the Protein is for sure. But appreciate the response!

You need to be concerned with your Protein intake, which in itself will take care of the calorie intake. We all have days where we just aren't that hungry - today is one of mine - I've only taken in about 400 calories. This though, can't be a daily thing. You are still early in your journey so you should still probably be drinking Protein Shakes. At the beginning I had to do that at least 2 times a day and still to this day I will chug one to get in more calories and protein for the day.

I'm five weeks out as well and I eat twice plus that many calories. I average around 800 and I'm comfortable there. I wonder how many kcal we're supposed to eat too. I've lost 15 lbs post surgery and 30 lbs including preop diet. Have you talked with your NUT?

Yes. More concerned with the Protein intake. There is no way my stomach could hold 800 cals right now. I'm lucky I can get down 1/4 cup of anything. I've lost 38lbs total since surgery. Just trying to make sure I get my protein in.

Yeah I'd think that would be the bigger concern over calories. I have no trouble eating so I get all my protein from food but the super low calories leave me with no energy. I see my NUT Friday, I'm going to ask!

Well now I'm nervous I'm eating too many calories. How's your energy?

I'm 6 weeks and I'm only getting in 500 to just over 600 and was concerned I wasn't getting enough but my macros are great and I figure as time goes on my calories will increase so I'm just focusing on Water and Protein right now

I'm 4 1/2 months out from surgery and I get about 800-1000 calories in a day most are Protein based. I drink two to three shakes a day. I am down 178 pounds in 4 1/2 months. but at first it was hard getting in 400-600 calories each day. concentrate on the protein and Water, slowly work in small amounts of other foods.

Clarify, you are down 178 pounds in 4.5 months! Is that a typo?

Well, everyone is different, but I feel that at 5 weeks out you should be able to tolerate more than 2oz at a time. Then again, if it's dense Protein, maybe that's all your sleeve can tolerate at once. Hard to say. How many calories do you get on average per day? How are you feeling overall?

I'd recommend running this by your surgeon just to be on the safe side.

I am 6 months out and just saw my dr Monday. She said to make sure I am hitting my Protein and Water also to try to stay between 600-800 calories a day.

I am 6 weeks post-op and I am getting between 700-800 calories. On days I workout I am close to 800 and have hit 810. Some days I am just not as hungry and usually 700-750.

I think some of us have faster healing and therefore are able to eat more. I am not worried about calories so much now because I know what I am eating is healthy. My net carbs are always below 30 and usually 15-20g. I think moving the calories up a little every few weeks is a good thing. I want my metabolism to be healthy. I am not a nutritionist. This is just my opinion from research I have done.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
