That's my main question - I know I have to do SOMETHING about my weight... and I've requested online information in order to get a consultation.... I've been reading quite a bit and my question for all of you is:

are any of you sorry that you went this route? Seriously.... is life afterward with all of the eating restrictions just "too much"??:help:

I got my band on August 27th. I have lost 30 pounds. I would do it over again if I ever had to. My clothes are getting baggy. Where as before, I was fixing to go into a larger size. I still have a long way to go, probably 80 pounds, but I am happier than I have been in years and years. I am still a work in progress, but at least I at working in the right direction. Clara

I've seen and read thread after thread with this same exact title and don't think I have seen one person say they regretted it. Even people who had complications said they would do it all over again.

I'm very glad that I did it. I have never experienced any difficulties or had many eating limitations. I prefer to only have light restriction because I want to be sure that I can meet my nutritional needs and not end up feeling really deprived.

In fact, vegetables are the only foods that my band has problems with (but I am vegetarian). The difference with the band for me is mostly psychological. It keeps me motivated because I know that I can always get more restriction if I lose my focus and start to regain. Knowing that I have a tool to keep the weight off makes all the difference.

We have another June bandster, Faithmd, who has never had a fill and yet has lost something like 80 pounds. That is why I love the band--you can manage it any way that it works for you.

Hand on my heart, totally and utterly honesty, I do not have "eating restrictions". I live a completely normal lifestyle, I just eat less than what I used to.

I try to make healthy choices most of the time, I definitely choose better but I can do everything I used to. Holidays, going out to eat, socialising, none of them are a problem to me. I just ingest half of what I would previously have done and dont have to face the weight gain afterwards.

I posted a poll back in March with a similar title. Over 300 people responded and 92% said that they would do it again...and 8% said they would not.

Now I'm 6 months out and I love my band!!! If I had some type of complication and had to have it removed I'd be devastated. If I had the option of being re-banded I'd definitely do it.

I am only 2 weeks out and still trying to get my Lap Band legs so to speak. I have lost 10 lbs in the last two weeks. And yes I would do it again. I have had a very good recovery though with minimal complications. :whoo:

I LOVE MY BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I reasearched, I debated, I kicked my own ass.......... I finally faced my fear of breaking up with my best friend food, and guess what......... I DIDN'T HAVE TO TOtAlly break it off!

Keep your fill level lose if you want to eat everything just less, fill tighter if you want the extra help to NOT eat those things...

The band is there WAITING to help you and that is it.

I'm sitting here in a baggy size 16, but when I was were you are now (preband) I was busting out of my 24's

I LOVE MY BAND!

I will be totally honest with ya, (not that I think others are not) but it can be hard at times!

(I am almost 4 months out, lost about 45lbs.) There are moments when I hate that I did this to myself, but then I breathe and think about what "band-rule" I just broke to cause the pain I am feeling at that moment, or what mental hurdle I am actually facing.

And there are also times where I would just kill to have a big fat juicy hamburger and a tall bubbly cherry coke with a side of salty fries! Then I put on my pair of size 14 jeans (used to be a size 20) and think, "OH, this is way better than a dumb hamburger!" Or, I hear someone notice that I am loosing weight and it makes it so worth it! (Not to mention the way I feel about myself and they way I am looking these days!)

So, honestly, it can be really easy for some, really hard for others, and you will never know what its going to be like for you until you do it! Its a total learning experience! Like everyone else has concluded, the band has really saved some of our lives and let us do things we never thought we could do again (scale and non-scale victories!)

Best of luck to you on your decision!

I regret all the Cookies I ate yesterday. I regret that I couldn't stop myself from picking at my kid's dinner yesterday. I regret the huge steak I ate yesterday. I'm being banded in Dec and I really believe that it's something I won't regret.

The only thing that I regret is not doing it sooner. I fought it for so long and thought of it as a "last resort". I really wished I would have done it sooner, because then I would have part of "me" back and be living my life like I want to live it.

Never once regretted it. Never once doubted my decision. I think the people who regret it either didn't know what they were doing, or faced such unusual circumstances that they truly would not do it over.

Don't assume you will have eating restrictions.

I have a tough time, usually, with early-mid day eating. This doesn't bother me. So I don't eat Breakfast, who cares.. so I have Soup for lunch.. who cares. Aside from my "time of day dependent" restriction, I can eat all foods.

I do regret not doing it sooner. For 5 years, I said "If I'm not at X weight by X date, I will seriously look into the <enter WLS of choice>". And year after year, I failed to make that goal, and procrastinated for another year. It took a major shift in attitude to do this. I regret not making that shift sooner, but I am glad I finally did.

It's hard to look at pictures of me when I weighed nearly 400 lbs, and look at the size 18s I put on today, and have any other regrets.

I am 8 weeks out and down 44 pounds. Today I had to go shopping for clothes for work. I bought a size 14 petite. I started crying in the dressing room. (I was a tight 20!) I am off all my heart meds and my blood sugar is normal. It is so worth it- I would do it over again in a heart beat.

The only things I miss- beer and Pepsi. But it is ok- I look better than they taste!!!!!!!!!!!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
