how can I tell my new stomach is full ?

Recommended Posts

hello everyone I have a serious serious question my surgery was the 25th of May I had gastric bypass as of today I have lost 17 pounds I am currently on the 2-week liquid diet I have not cheated I actually take in the allocated amount of liquids that is allowed 48oz I either break that down by having to Premier Protein shakes which is a total of 30 grams of Protein so I'm getting an average of 60 g of protein a day. My question is I sit constantly through the day whether it is my Protein Shake my Water my sugar-free popsicle and my chicken broth, how can I tell when my new stomach is full for the day. I am just curious I don't over sit so I am a faithful sipper and when I do sit it's about 1/2 ounces but I sit through the day it's not like I wait 15 minutes and take another sip what are some of the signs currently I feel like a gurgling but it's not really strong it's like a gurgling in my upper stomach my new stomach so any advice would be greatly appreciated I just am watching the signs because I don't want what people are talking about that dumping syndrome thanks

You will never, should never feel food on liquids.

You won't feel restriction until you get to soft foods typically. It feels different for everyone, you will know when it happens.

It's ok if you feel full on liquids (I did!). It's also ok if you don't.

Funny story.. we went to a restaurant 2 days after surgery (me and another sleeve patient). I took, oh about 2 sips of Soup and 3 sips of Water and was full. The other patient managed her whole bowl of soup, plus a glass of water! It was fine either way.

Yep everyone is different. Shortly after surgery, while on liquids, I felt full just thinking about putting something in my mouth:-). I could only drink 2 ounces at a time. Once off liquids, and on soft food, I had a different feeling of full. Now, I have a genuine feeling of fullness when I eat a meal.

Others feel no restriction when drinking liquids and that's ok too. I've heard people say that at 6 months out you can start really evaluating your new normal. I'm only 4 months so I think I have a lot more to learn about full and hungry. Staying tuned:-)

We had surgery around the same time. I can get 3-4 swallows of Water down before I feel incredibly tight and a few seconds of discomfort. I haven't yet felt hunger I feel full all day and water makes it worse. I have 3 "meals" now that I'm on full liquids. I agree that the full feeling seems different for everyone. I can eat 1/4 cup of food (creamed Soup or cottage cheese) and be stuffed to the brim. It literally feels full and tight up to my throat with no warning- Not over time. I'll take a bite and all of a sudden that's the bite that triggers that feeling so I'll stop.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
