Kinda OT: What do you guys think of Mama June's news headlines about her VGS & Body Lift?

I got the sense none of this was her idea and that her "people" rushed her through the process at a totally unreasonable pace for ratings. It's hard enough to do all this when you want to. I can't imagine how you deal with all the emotional stuff that comes with this when your reasons belong to someone else and revolve around money and your primary motivation is to stick it to someone who doesn't even want you anymore. How does she not regain when the world stops caring about her transformation and she's left alone with her small stomach, her emotions and her family who continue to eat crap?

This.

Anyone with any sense can that coming from a mile away.

I've been watching but I'm a few episodes behind. Whatever her motives may have been, I think there is also so much we are not seeing, TV creates alternate reality. My husband and I have noticed that in some scenes she even appears to be wearing prosthesis to make her look large so I'm pretty sure they went back and filmed scenes after she had already lost the weight. Having her do it to make her ex husband jealous is more interesting to the common viewer than for her to have the surgery for health benefits. Plus we already have a show based in that idea (My 600 pound life). I think it isn't our place to judge her based on what we see on TV alone, Reality TV is the farthest thing from Reality.

I commend her for having the surgery and losing the weight. I hope this sets an example for her daughter who are all overweight except the oldest one who lives on her own. Hopefully they see their mother slimmer, happier and in better health and chose to make changes in their lives. Especially the youngest one, she is very large for her age and if she doesn't change now she will be heading down a slippery slope.

As for the skin surgery, should she have waited, yes! But I also think she was at a point where a surgeon felt comfortable doing it and unless we were in the room with that doctor we can't really know much more than we are shown.

Mama June could say exactly the same thing.

This is absolutely the last place I would have expected to see people being body-critical of someone else, reality star or otherwise.

I Think how you'd feel with comments about the things you can't change. "Legs like tree trunks" "inflated" fat feet, "just like Carnie Wilson."

Everyone has a different body type, heck, my own legs have never been and will never be anything but "sturdy, like big oak," (thanks for the judgey comment about big legs in this thread I really appreciated it. Made my day.)

It's also essential to point out that the woman has had (imo) far too much surgery in too brief a time, because it is her JOB. And before the 11 months you are on TV, she spent a year or two on her own dropping significant weight pre-surgery

She's still swollen from all of that surgery and won't see the final results for a while yet.

Also, lymphatic problems don't necessarily clear up after surgery. Sometimes they get worse.

I didn't follow the family through the Honey Boo Boo stage, but What I saw in this show was a woman struggling to do something DAMN hard and succeeding.

Im personally disappointed in a lot of people here today.

I may be mistaken but isn't she the one who put all of this out there for the public to view and discuss? I don't know about others but I haven't' body shamed her at all IMO.

I personally believe she truncated the process, had the plastic surgery too soon and hasn't reached goal weight. Part of that is the look of her arms and legs. That's not shaming her to discuss what she is showing off and doing interviews on, photoshoots and multiple talk shows. I believe that her story is not an accurate one in that she didn't do it the way 99% of VGS patients have done it. I am personally disappointed that people view this discussion as body shaming and that we can't even talk about this without people getting offended and upset.

I never knew of mama June but for some reason so many seem to dislike her even her own mom. That's neither here nor there but I think she looks amazing, compared to her previous 400+ self. The process was way to fast in my opinion, but whatevs. I don't even want to have a c-section for at least 18 months from now.

So far I have seen every episode. She is the whole reason I started this journey. I'm not saying that she is my role model but I had no idea this surgery existed. So I guess I have her to thank. I'm also not an idiot. Every since I've been watching her I have done research on the surgery. I just got approved yesterday through my insurance. I am over the moon right now. My God is good!

That right there 100% validates the need for this show. Congratulations!

Most people here don't have plastics until they are over a year post-op and actually have a healthy BMI. My opinion stands, you don't have to like it or even read it.
She looks terrible and is piss poor example for WLS and reconstructive plastic surgery.
P.S. All money isn't good money.

Sad!

Her journey....on TV for the whole world to watch. Why is it so upsetting for us to be discussing this in an adult manner?

Are you really surprised? I like this forum but there are quite a few arrogant, self righteous posters who stick their heads and opinions on a lot of posts because to them "they are right"! [emoji849] those people (probably know who they are) are the worst! That being said you can't take everyone seriously lol but I get where your coming from

Scum of the earth or not, past poor decisions or not, and regardless of her timeline, you're on a forum for people who had the same surgery, probably countless of whom many of your barbs at Mama June apply to. We're here primarily to be supportive of each other's journey.
Now, feeling she's the scum of the earth is your right. But framing it in terms of her looks and the success or not of her surgery is shallow and ultimately harmful to others' success in this environment. That is my point.
P.S. We all "*****" ourselves out for money. It's called having a job. If her job is in entertainment, so be it.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
