3 meals or 6? How much do you y'all eat? (Post- op vets)

Recommended Posts

5 mini-meals every 3 - 4 hours. 3oz of Protein for at least 4 of the meals so I can make my protein goal.

I am 5 months post op. Until last week I ate 6 meals per day. I am trying to transition to 3 meals per day now that my restriction has relaxed a little. Either way works for me, but in the beginning 6 was necessary to get in all the Protein.

I 16/8 fast, so I eat all my Protein in an 8 hour window.

I eat 4 to 6 times a day, it just depends on what I eat.

The best defense is a good offense. Eating multiple times a day prevents you from over eating and helps you resist temptation because you know the next meal is around the corner.

Also if I only ate 3 meals a day I would NEVER meet my protein goals. I can eat 20-30 grams of protein at a time. 3 meals a day would not get me to protein goals. Even though now I can eat larger portions it is uncomfortable, 4 ounces is the most comfortable and that is always around 20 grams. So I have to eat more than 3 times a day to his 120 grams of protein.

I agree. I eat 3-5 times a day. I measure out 2 oz tuna and put them into little containers. So I call it a snack, but it's really a mini meal. I could eat more, but I am satisfied with 2oz and it get my Protein in with real food.

"Snacking" is fine (just my opinion) if you plan them out.

I'm heading to Disney (right now) and I had to plan out my meals/snacks so that I have options. I don't want to feel hungry and only have park food to turn to. My doc has me with NO fruit for the first 3 months, so my choices are very limited. I ordered groceries and packed my little containers and ice packs and shakes to keep me on track.

I eat 3 meals and two Snacks a day per my NUT. I also still supplement with a Protein beverage. I'm getting on average around 100 g of protein a day so it's working for me!

My Protein guidelines through my plan seem awful low compared to others. My guide says 60-80. Wondering if this would explain frequent stalls and slow weight loss. Any thoughts?

60 is like the bare minimum you need to live not the optimal level.

I peg my Protein goals to my lean mass.

Everyone doesn't have the same goals post op as others. I want to maintain as much muscle as possible with as little effort as possible because I like to eat :) keeping my proteiname high has kept my metabolism high and my muscle mass up.

Everyone stalls though. I lose a lot of inches during my stalls so I enjoy them. I've been stalled bouncing around for 2 months but I lost a dress size and 1/2 a shoe size in that time.

Mine says 60-80 as well. I'm on my 4th week post op so I don't have a lot of experience with stalls etc. I have noticed many many variations from surgeon to surgeon. Some are on liquid for a month, some eat puree on day 3. It's just best to do what you are told by your doctor. However, if you are eating extra protein within the calories guidelines I can't see how that could hurt.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
