This will be a TMI post...

I am exactly 49 days post op (yay) Finally starting to feel like myself and experimenting with eating different foods. Its awesome. I haven't had many issues with rejecting food just yet or throwing up so I am really thankful for that. However, my excitement is short lived because......I haven't been able to poop independently since surgery :( About two weeks postop I had an issue with fecal impaction and it. was. the. worst. thing. ever. I thought I was going to die. the pain, dehydration, straining, dizzy/faint feeling was enough for me to vow to never go that long without pooping again. Therefore I have resorted to using different ways to make myself go. Anytime I have gone has been with the assistance of suppositories or enemas, stool softeners, etc. although they (sometimes) work I really don't want to continue to have to use enemas and suppositories because I feel like constant use CANT be healthy...also being on all fours shoving liquid up your bum, less than desirable :/ I have tried upping my Fiber, nothing. I have tried eating fibrous fruits, no dice. So the next thing I wanted to try is this Wheat bran, prune juice and applesauce mixture that I read might help? Has anyone tried this and had good/bad/any results???

I too have this issue. I am almost 22 weeks post op. I ended up in the ER the day after my birthday because I hadn't had a bowl movement for over a week. It hurt pretty bad. I also had urine retention (which my primary at the VA said is probably due to an enlarged prostrate and put me on meds). I still have to strain to have a bowel movement but I am having them every day since I started the BPH meds (for some reason the meds seem to help me have "normal" daily bowel movements). I go an see my surgeon for my 6 month in April and that will be the first thing on my list to tell him about. Good luck to you.

I am glad you are now having a BM everyday, I cant wait until I can say the same! Lol it's kind of comical how much importance I put on it now and how for granted I took it pre-op! Best of luck to you on your journey :)

i have experienced Constipation a lot since surgery. I was taking Milk of Magnesium for about a month and switched to Miralax, daily, after seeing my surgeon 3 months out. The past week my constipation was awful so I took 2 Dulcolax, a long with the Miralax and 4 prunes. It totally did the trick. Today i skipped the Miralax and Dulcolax to give my body a break but will continue with the Miralax and prunes tomorrow.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
