Hair loss after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Guys or Gals, have you had any Hair loss after surgery and has it stopped after a period of time? I was sleeved 11-29-2016 and have noticed hair loss. If you have, what are you using to combat this and has it been successful in growing back? I'm a little worried and don't want to keep losing hair. I've started taking Biotin and using Rogaine twice a day. Any pointers for me?

lol you are right on schedule! Hair loss usually happens about 3-6 months after surgery. Hang in there - in about 3 months you will notice it's stopped falling out so fast. In another 3-6 months you will be back to normal!

I guess I have that to look forward to shortly! My doctor just said to take Biotin and eat lots of Protein.

If you don't mind my asking, what are you noticing? Is it just thinner hair in general, fallen hairs around your desk and bathroom, etc., or clumps of hair coming out/hairless areas on the scalp?

I took Biotin starting before my surgery and for months afterwards. And I when "fallout" started, I applied a topical over-the-counter liquid (generic rogaine ) to my scalp daily. Not sure if either helped, but at least I felt better knowing I was doing all I could!

I've noticed more hair by the drain after showering. The thinning has been towards the back of my head where most males start to lose and get their bald spot. Also in the front I've noticed a general thinning out as well. Hoping this will stop soon!

I hope this doesn't happen to me, I'm just four weeks out. I'm hitting my Protein targets, taking Biotin and going to start Nioxin soon. I know all these measures won't stop it.. but it makes me feel better knowing I am trying lol

I haven't noticed any on myself yet being 15 weeks post op. My hair is short so I prob won't notice anyway.
I was told don't waste my money on anything as it's gonna happen regardless lol

I'm just over 6 months out. It was worst for me between 4-6 months -- handfuls of hair when I shampooed. Keep your Protein and Water intake up. Take some Biotin if you like. There's no avoiding it. Your hair comes back nicely- don't stress. It's just your body reacting to all the changes. You may see changes in your nails as well.

Nothing you can do for Hair loss. Before sugery everyone told me if I got Protein and took hair vitimans that it wouldn't happen. Month 4 came and hair started coming bad. My doctor to me that it was nothing I could do. It was because of being on a low calorie diet for so long. Chemistryqueenvsg does a awesome video on YouTube about hair loss and talks more in depth about how being on a low calorie cause your body to have hair loss. My hair loss did stop at when my doctor up my calories to 1300 calories a day at my 4 post op appointment.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
