So I went to Sam's and bought cases of Premier protein shakes.

Recommended Posts

I went to Sam's today and got 2 cases of shakes and bars for my 2 week pre-op diet. I have to start Wednesday of next week. Since I left Sam's I have this overwhelming since of fear. Buying those shakes have made this so real. I'm so afraid that I will fail. At this point failure is not an option. I'm 41 years old with a beautiful 4 year old daughter.(my only child) I have to live for my daughter. She deserves a mother who can actively participate in her life. I am feeling so overwhelmed right now. I really need an encouraging words.

Had my surgery on 2/9. I totally understand how you are feeling. When you start to doubt yourself think of all the reasons why you are doing this.

Thanks guys. I am feeling a little better today. Even though I had a restless night. I explained to my daughter that the doctor was going to help me lose weight so that I could do lots of things with her. I drug my treadmill to her play room last night and walked while she played. She stopped in the middle of playing and said mommy you're doing so good. I'm so proud of you. My heart just melted. So when she woke up this morning she said mommy I'm so excited for the doctor to help you. She then yelled when you lose weight we are going to have so much fun. We can run and play and ride bikes together. That made me feel so much better. I love my husband but my daughter is the reason I'm figuring this fight.

Get some neon paper. You and your daughter make signs to hang around the house with encouraging tidbits. She can draw pictures of you riding bikes or whatever. When you become disheartened, look at your signs for a boost!

It will be all worth it. I'm 35 with a 5yr old daughter...my one and only We need to be around for them. This step will increase our chances of watching them grow to be independent successful adults. Im in phase one...seeing the nutritionist. Best of luck

When is your surgery? I'm 46 with a nearly 7 year old and I completely understand where you are coming from. I had a moment of panic and then I quickly decided to replace it with excitement about the new me. I'm totally focusing on the new body I'm going to have and reading only positive stories. Keeps me in a positive headspace. I also downloaded the headspace app and started meditating. There is also a 7 min exercise app using no special equipment that I downloaded and started. Small steps. They all add to the journey.

That made such a difference for me, focusing not just on why I'm doing this (we'll be adopting soon, and I want to be there for our kiddos and wife) but also making sure I focus on the positive stories

there are are a lot of bloggers out there with negative or cynical styles and that was making me more depressed and anxious. I didn't want to have surgery only to become joyless.

Now I'm convinced a lot of it is attitudinal and reminding myself that has also been helping because I want to get better as quickly as I can and get back to doing the things I love to do.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
