Single incision versus multiple incisions

Just found out there are 2 different ways to perform this procedure. my bmi is 37 so I am under the assumption I could get the single incision surgery if bmi under 40. I will probably be flying across coast to coast across the US after surgery so the pain factor may be less. Any thoughts or suggestion?

One surgeon I looked into stopped doing the single incision laparoscopic surgery because the instruments were less precise than using the multiple incisions. It's not very common.

The single incision seems gimmicky to me. Yes it would be nice to have one less incision, but they have not hurt terribly bad. I am 2 weeks post op, and they don't really bother me at all. Plus, that's a lot of instruments in one port if you go with the single incision. I would imagine it would be very tender afterwards with everything taking place in one port. With the multiple incisions, each instrument is placed with a specific purpose, and I agree that it gives the surgeon more precision.

From what I've read, including some of the scientific studies, single incision takes a little longer for the total surgery, however the recovery time is quicker and the pain level is lower. I don't know if BMI is a disqualifier, but when I asked my doctor if I was eligible he said I was too tall (5'10"), he doesn't like to do it on anyone over 5'2" or so, since it's more distance to the stomach.

4 of my incisions are tiny, no bigger than a fingernail. The last one is probably almost an inch. I have a feeling they will be close to invisible 2 years from now. I agree with @@FindingCarrie 1 incision sounds gimmicky.

I wasn't really concerned with the scars. My concern was I'll be on airplanes for 10 hours after the surgery and was thinking it might be a bit less painful, but I see the points made about it being better for the doc to make more than 1 incision. Guess I'm being a bit of a wuss

I have 5. All are about a 1/2 inch except for one, which is about an inch. The larger one is where they pull the stomach out of.

I have five. The longest one is about an inch or so over my belly button, horizontal to my waistline, and about an inch or so long, it's where the removed the stomach.

There are two small incisions on each side, to the left and right, and a little higher up, where the two sets of surgical instruments were utilized.

I have fine. They reused the ones from my gallbladder removal years ago. The incisions are tiny; two of them I can't see without really looking. I also had an emergency c-section with a vertical incision so I'm not terribly worked up about scarring since I have such a big one. Honestly, though, the incision scars are hardly noticeable for many people and they heal pretty quickly.
