Last few days the band has tightened more I cant even take Water I just bring it up again, feeling rubbish too with high temperature :(

Has any one been through this or any advice in what to do will be greatful.

Hi Sara,

Well done on your weight loss so far :)

I waited 10 days before introducing mushies and it was really mushy like mashed potatoes and gravy. I tried eggs and they got stuck, even now they still get stuck so I stay away from them but some people can manage them. I also had stovies and mince mixed in with potatoes, anything really with quite a smooth consistency.....soup also is a good choice :) I built up the consistency every week until I managed solids (most solids anyway) Its really just trial and error.

I am getting my second fill tomorrow....so far lost 24lbs but stayed the same for a few weeks and can pretty much eat full portions and snack so hoping this will give me some restriction but im glad I havent put on. xxx

I had my first fill today and I put on 1lb which im not going to cry about cos I can eat just about anything...actually surprised it wasnt more lol! So thats me now got 5ml in my band, see how that goes :)

Yeah Sara aslong as you chew chew chew then you shouldnt really have any problems but its a bummer when you find out what gets stuck. Another for me is tuna, had a painful experience with that and ive never attempted bread but dont think I will tbh.

Ive not heard of the 5day pouch test...sounds good!

I had a similar problem recently, I had a defill at my local hospital but yesterday Frederick said that if it happens again you should drink cold drinks as they can reduce stomach swelling (like running your finger under a cold tap after you hit it with a hammer!) and not to have anything hot until you can swallow again.

His email is: frederik.serneels@ecfs.be

Good luck! x

Hello all

I know I haven't been on for a little while, been caught up with extra days in school, yoga classes and half term.

Congrats to everyone who has been for their surgery, hope you are recovering and TAKING it easy!!!

I've caught up with the thread.

So sorry Freckles to hear the sad news about your daughter and her partner do hope they have been put in contact with the right organisations that will support them through their loss. If not then PM me and I will send you an email with the links for them.

Well weight wise I seemed to have slowed a little which in some ways is good as it has been a bit of a downhill rollercoaster for 28 weeks. I am 1/2 a pound off of 70 pounds loss which I am really pleased about. I have managed a few solids along the way but still mainly Protein rich Soup, some yoghurt, aptimals (oops I think I have spent a few too many days around my baby groups) should be actimels! herbalife shakes when I can get it down, and a little bit of cheese (only now and then as it is a little tricky at times) IYKWIM

So have a fill booked for the 10th March and looking forward to that. Feel great otherwise and full of beans!

Wil endeavour to come back as soon as possible when pace of life slows a little and gives me a chance.

Take care and look after yourselves.

Claire x

Well I went to Edinburgh on Thursday for another fill - total confusion between the Doctors as Dr Chris and his sidekick Chris don't pass on information to each other .... Dr Chris thought I had 5 mls in my band when I know I have 7 mls - could have led to some serious complications had we not discussed it, only poor thing I have ever had to say about the service,

I got a .5ml top up so now have 7.5ml in my 7ml band and although can feel some restriction its not where I thought it would be but will see how it goes. I am only keeping it at this level for 4 weeks as going on honeymoon in 4 weeks so need a de-fill before flying, this band is more expensive than I imagined it would be - now have had 5 fills and will need another few before I get on track I think but hey ho such is life.

delighted to read everyones stories on their weight loss - Claire your doing really well - fantastic.

Good luck to those of you who are just starting your journey I am sure, like the rest of us, it will be the best decision you have ever made.

I am hoping to lose at least 7 lbs in next 4 weeks so will keep you all posted

We are off to Singapore and Australia for 4 weeks - holiday of a lifetime really.

Just been out hillwalking with my 2 dogs, came back and tried a few spoonsfuls of mushie but nope it came right back up so maybe I have now got restriction at last - would appear it has taken 48 hours to kick in - fingers crossed the weight will start shifting now

I was 40 this week to and it felt great to be 3 stone lighter on my 40th birthday than I was on my 39th so although slower than I thought it keeps going in the right direction, if I lose another 3 stone this year I will be almost at target and would be delighted

Keep up your good work Claire

Thanks emsey for the information. I ended up going to my local hospital with dehydration was put on a drip then in the morning they did an x-ray had to drink that awful drink so that it shows up in the x-ray.

The guy said its totally closed nothing is going through. They took 6ml out and left only 2.5 felt like crying, took me nearly a year to get to my restriction.

I lost a stone in 2 weeks felt great, now having no restriction it will go back on. Will try extra hard not to eat too much lol.

I asked the gastric band surgeon why for sudden the band tightened he just said sometimes it does that for no reason.

It was scary not being able to eat or drink and please dont wait like me, more then 2 days for de- fill things could have been very dangerouse if i left it any longer.

Everyone is doing so well, love reading ur post keep it up.

Hi

I haven't been on here for ages, glad to hear that everyone is still losing - keep up the good work.

Freckles, sorry to hear your sad news.

My weight loss has slowed right down but I am eating full meals in most cases without ny problems so I think it is time for my second fill next time the clinic comes to Glasgow. The only thing I struggle to eat is bread, in any form. I am currently disgusted with myself after stuffing my face with a pkt of walkers sensations - family size after my dinner.< /p>

I really need a good push to get back on track. I think that is why I loged back into the forum to get insparation from everyone. I struggled to find the forum - what have they done to it?

I don't think Chris is back in Glasgow for another couple of weeks so I will need to find something o do o sop me eating rubbish.

Take care

Shaz

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
