Protein shakes liquid or food?

Recommended Posts

We all know the no drinking before/during/after meals guidelines for the most part with the sleeve. But I'm not sure about Protein shakes. I still drink 2 premier Protein Shakes per day and not sure if I have to space those out like a liquid (for me it's no drinking 15 min before and 30 min after eating). Anyone ask their NUT about this or know the answer?

Protein Shakes don't count as food in that instance. Someone asked that during one of our classes. You're good!

You are fined drinking Water or other liquids right before and after Protein Shakes. They don't count as "eating". That is one reason you may want to phase out Protein shakes once you are back on solid foods though. Getting your protein from "real" food or even Protein Bars will fill your sleeve so you aren't drinking your calories.

I loved the fact you could drink before and after a Protein drink, especially in the beginning when I was advised to get fluids in first before worrying about Protein.

The goal of the Protein is to help you feel full longer. I think if you drink too soon before or after you are deluding the Protein shake and not getting the benefit. IMHO

liquids don't stay in your stomach for any amount of time once you are fully healed post-op. They pass straight through in a matter of seconds. Protein, as a nutrient satiates hunger for longer than carbs, meaning you won't be hungry as soon after ingesting it. But protein shakes don't actually fill your stomach. So drinking immediately afterward won't "dilute" the protein. A Protein Shake is about 90% Water as it is....

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
