Salad - 4 months out

Recommended Posts

So I've started trying to introduce salad to my diet. Needless to say this has not gone well. For some reason I have had issues digesting this. I've tried many things and the only thing that works is not actually having salad leaves. Which is solooo weird. I've read many people have problems with salad but didn't understand why but now I do!! It's OK I'm down almost 70lbs since surgery so I will take that!!

I'm just wondering what happens? Vomit/diarrhea or just stomach pain? I had a tiny bit of lettuce in a wrap and thought I had food poisoning but maybe it was letttuce intolerance?

I get really bad reflux. I cannot digest it properly seems like it gets stuck in my throat and it burns!! I chew and chew then swallow but doesn't help.

Your body cannot digest the leafy greens like it use to..and besides, unless you're adding a ton of chicken to your salad, you're not getting the Protein that you need anyway. salad for bypass patients is a waste of time and energy...Once you're over a year out you can "stomach" it a bit better...but even then it can get stuck and cause you issues.

Best of luck!

I guess I am one of the lucky ones.

I wanted to try a little salad and my nutritionist suggested waiting 7-8 weeks post op and starting slowly with it. So that's what I did.... started about a week and a half ago and started slowly.... not a problem at all. Now I have been enjoying romaine lettuce salads and Italian blend salad greens with grape tomatoes on top.... with my chicken and Waldenfarm's calorie free sesame ginger dressing. YUM!

I am so glad that I am tolerating lettuce well. Next I want to try cucumbers.

Sorry to hear that many of you are unable to tolerate salad.

Howdy..............14 months post op here.

Also becoming a salad lover........largely in part because my program's NUT says we shouldn't eat salad.< /p>

Flawed reasoning, I know......but it's how I roll.

Went to a spot yessaday.....known for their salad bar.

Ordered their New Orleans blackened fish and shrimp......and salad bar.

Spinach, bacon, red onions, soybeans, blue cheese dressing and other non-carb stuff added. It was mighty tasty and more than half made it home in a to-go box.

I laugh at some of the bs my NUT preached. I was able to get a pile of Protein and Fiber from yessaday's outing.

I've had a little bit of salad along with my Protein a few times in the last few weeks, and it was no problem for me at all. It will just be an occasional thing since it really doesn't really give me a lot of bang for my buck, but I was happy that it didn't cause a problem.

I'm 4.5 months post-op and eat salad sometimes. The quantity is small but the digestion is fine. As suggested above, maybe start small.

This is SOOO disappointing to read! My craving has been a really good sheppard salad and I've been anticipating getting the go-ahead because this was the first thing I wanted to eat! :( My body is craving something green and fresh - crispy. What a bummer! :(

It's not like that for everyone Hun just for me. I've had some reflux issues since week 5 so maybe why I can't tolerate it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
