Should have listened to the vets...3 week stall is real!

Recommended Posts

Being a high school teacher and a football coach I thought that I had a system that would work right through any potential of a stall. Work harder = better results. Well, I'm in the middle of 3 weeks post op and I have not lost anything the last 4 days. Even gained .2 during the stall. Added more Water and Protein (still in the liquid stage) and have been increasing walking times. There are probably a 1000+ posts talking about the 3 week stall and how it happens to 98% of us. SO.... here I am dealing with a stall. But the strangest thing happened this morning, pants that did not fit at the start of the week are now almost too loose!

Not losing weight during the stall, but losing inches.......just like what all the vets said.

It's common to feel like you have control over your situation and that you are doing something wrong if you stall, but you genuinely have no control in this. Your body is going to do what it's going to do to heal itself and adapt to your new situation. You are just along for the ride!

I've stalked too. I haven't stressed about it because I trust the process. Just waiting. But, tried on a skirt yesterday that has never fit (bought right before surgery). It fit! Put on some pants, too big. So big in fact that they drug the ground. Pants being too big is a first. I've felt like I was only losing on top but finally the bottom is catching up!

Ditto on the 3 week stall! :( Like you, my pants fit loose which is a good thing I guess but yeah, a bit frustrating. Just think, we haven't been eating, so the weight has to come off eventually, right? If not, where is it going? lol

Part of what is happening is your metabolism is going "WTF IS HAPPENING???" and is slowing down in order to retain energy. You just have to wait it out and keep up on your program. It will kick back in, I swear! Your body is in shock, give it time to adjust and deal with what you've done to it. lol! Stalls happen throughout the whole process. The body doesn't like to lose this much weight this fast. It thinks something is terribly wrong and so it will slow your metabolism down to "save" itself from "starvation".

Also, it takes a few years for our metabolisms to recover. So for like 24 to 36 months after we've reached goal is the easiest time to gain weight back because our metabolism is stuck on "we're starving" mode. After that it slowly speeds back up.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
