This sure feels weird

Recommended Posts

Almost 20 years ago, I took my wedding ring off. It was early 1998, and I was working in my shop. I caught my ring on a machine and lost a big chunk out of my finger. I took it off, and bandaged it up. At home that night, I told Mrs LittleBill, "I will gladly give my life for you, but I won't lose my finger". She was fine with that. For the past 19 years I haven't worn it.

Now that I am losing weight, women are hitting on me. I know, I know, hard to believe, right? But even before, it was an issue. My voice is deep - Darth Vader deep. Women approach me even with Mrs. LittleBill right there. So I am putting it back on.

It feels weird. My finger is not normal. In high school, it was broken in two places in a wrestling match. Just to get over my knuckle, my ring is the size of a small napkin ring. I suppose my fingers were a little fatter to boot, but now they are skinny, and my ring slips right on - almost. I am sure I will get used to it. I did once before. And we have been married a long time.

Some women won't care if are wearing a ring, just sayin'. Sounds like that must have been very painful when you did that to your finger. Ouch.

If the attention gets too much, they make silicone rings now that are good for people who work with their hands and could lose a finger with a metal ring.

You are right. Mrs. LittleBill was one of them, but on the other side of the equation. I do see your point though. It was pretty painful, but stuff like that fades with time.

ETA: she didn't care in that she was not worried about me. That sentence above could cast aspersions on her character.

Thank you! This is a great idea! I had no idea that anyone made something like this. I will be checking it out. Tonight.

I shrank out of my wedding ring, felt weird not wearing it. I ordered a package of the silicone ones in every size. So I've been going through those. Kind of nice because if I get then caught on anything it will break before I lose a finger.

I haven't worn my ring or a watch since 1998. Now I've got both on - the watch is my fitness tracker. But, they come off in the shop. There are too many things that could go wrong there.

For our 25 wedding anniversary my husband had a beautiful diamond and platinum ring made for me. It has a hinged shank so I can get it over my knuckle and tighten it once over. If you ever want to have your original wedding ring redone so you can wear it when not working in the shop a jeweler can help with this type of shank.

@@Treadmillwalker I will have to check that out. If I do it, I can tell Mrs. LittleBill that on account of her, I've come unhinged. :D I am sure she would appreciate the sentiment.

Thank you.

You'd better get used to them hitting on you, boss.

It's gonna happen.....ring or no ring. Your confidence and overall attitude will be being soaring and they'll key on that.

I'm getting hit on too.

I'm surprised that my ring size has gone down so much. When I got married I was 12.5 "comfort fit"(slightly rounded inside) now I easily fit a regular 10.

It has been going on for a while, and I suspect it will get worse. Probably the worst was the woman at the McDonald's drive through. Mrs. LittleBill and our youngest daughter were in the truck with me that day. I had had a couple of previous encounters with this woman. Anyway, I put our order in, and she started moaning right there over the speaker system. When we pulled around to the window, she was literally hanging out the window with her hand on my arm, moaning. Mrs. LittleBill was sitting there with a WTF look on her face. Our daughter was in the back seat saying "Eww eww eww!" I don't think a ring would have made a difference. I had to stop going there. Of course, it is moot now. :P

Comfort fit was how I rolled, too.........back in the days where I wore a ring.

Dang, bro.

A happy meal was forthcoming there, indeed.

Funny times.

It's gonna be a wild ride, sir.....a potentially wild ride.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
