No food on Christmas

Recommended Posts

I'm on stage 1 right now after my December 16th sleeve surgery. My mom was nice enough not to make a dinner I like this year for Christmas but let me tell you, I'm so sad about it. I know this is part of the process and only temporary but I want all the Christmas goodies I'm used to. I'm trying to remember why I did this in the first place and that has got me through most of the season. Later there's a Christmas party I'm going to where everyone will be drinking and eating and I know I'll be so sad. I wish food didn't have this kind of hold on me.

I'm with you. Had our family party last night and I was so depressed that I could eat any of the traditional dinner, homemade fudge, Cookies, etc. I think that was one of the toughest nights I've ever had. Keep strong.

You will be eating all your old favorite stuff before you know it. This is just one holiday out of dozens and dozens to come. It will soon be a distance memory that will be faded behind many new joyous ones. You will realize it is insignificant and a very small sacrifice in exchange for being thin and healthy.

Trying to look at it that way! Thank you for the words of encouragement.

Here's a festive idea....1 scoop vanilla Protein powder, 1/2 cup low fat eggnog, 1/2 frozen banana, just under 1/2 cup Water and a few ice cubes. Sprinkle nutmeg on top to complete this healthy festive drink! It helped me today.

I definitely feel you on this one. I just had bypass on the 19th. My family actually doesn't live that close (about 2 hrs) but I couldn't even go home just FaceTime for a little while. While we were they were talking about their dinner and I almost cried.

Inthe words of one wise Lady, who happens to be one of my many diet coach: NOTHING TASTE AS GOOD AS BEING ABLE TO FIT INTO YOUR SMALL JEANS AND SMALL CLOTHES!!! She also told me this one, I don't care for fish and on this program you were required to eat fish of some kind 2 to 3 times a week. Well I was whining and saying I hate fish, she looked me straight in the eyes and said: Ok, have you ever seen a fish with a fat tail? I said NOPE and she told me, then eat the FISH!!! She was a very wise lady indeed. At first her wise words were wasted on me, I didn't get it but I know now that when she told me nothing taste as good as being thin and being able to wear my size 8 jeans. She is RIGHT!!!

As I grow older, I realize more and more, things change. Life is not static. While we might want things to stay the same, they never do. The best thing is to realize that change will happen, and embrace it instead of fighting it. As the Marines say, Improvise, adapt, and overcome. It really does work.

Thankfully I endured two family dinners with my broth& crystal light. Yeah it looked darn good but my goals are more important right now. We will have to find other things to occupy our time now because I was usually a bored/emotional eater so I spent most of my time on my phone & watching tv while they were eating then I enjoyed what I could hv. I thank God that I never regretted my decision & did not shed a tear because the way they were eating is why I needed to make a change in the first place. Do some self talk & encourage yourself & even treat yourself to a sf popsicle of sf jello

It may seem very difficult not to be able to partake in all of the food festivities, but you can still enjoy the company of loved ones and friends.

This is the first holiday season after the passing of two immediate family members. There are worse things than not being able to enjoy the holiday goodies. I hope you had a Merry Christmas and were thankful for the things you have; I was, or at tried to.

I didn't cook one darn thing this year. I just couldn't. But I did enjoy some hot chocolate (the bariatric pal stuff in the store)! At least that's something I can enjoy. I tried to focus on the people and the events more than the food. It's a re-thinking of our holidays. I liked not having a bunch of crap around that I feel like I had to eat or it would go to waste!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
