Does anyone still get "stuck"?

I had the band 6 years ago. I lost initially but then never found a good spot, either to tight or to loose. I'm working towards revising to the sleeve (hopefully late February). Thing is, my band is basically empty and I still have "stuck" episodes. I feel like I always get stuck if I am out to eat. So I want to know if people still get stuck with the sleeve? I know the same rules apply and you have to chew, but I want to know. I am so sick of excusing myself to the bathroom (only my immediate family knows I have the band)

When you say stuck, do you mean it feels like food is getting stuck in your lower esophageal sphincter? I still feel this way from time to time, but only if I eat too fast or too much. It was really frequent for me during the first 5 weeks post-op (I had the sleeve), but it was because my stomach was still swollen. I've heard of many complications with the LAP-Band. I think my surgeon is trying to get out of the LAP-Band procedure in his practice because there are so many issues going on with it. I highly recommend getting the sleeve. I think you'll like it more.

When I do feel like food is getting stuck, I go to the bathroom and make myself puke (I know I shouldn't be doing that. It's a challenge I'm working on.) I know that when it gets stuck, it's because it's my fault for not eating slowly. This stuck feeling doesn't happen that often; maybe once every two weeks (and don't forget that it's only because I eat fast).

I'm aware of that. The lower esophageal sphincter is right above the band. So basically, you're feeling as if it's stuck there.

During my last month with the band , i didn't have any Fluid in and occasionally if i ate to fast i would feel stuck. If this is an everyday occurrence for you i would ask your doctor to check it .. you could have possibly slipped .. i woke up one morning and couldn't even keep down Water. The band came out that day. I was recently sleeved Nov 28th and i haven't

felt that stuck feeling yet. I feel a bit more restriction due to the scar the band left behind but that it is.

I felt that way a lot. I was in the bathroom after most meals heavier than Soup. The result was that my band became distended after an overfill incident a while back. The situation was never properly dealt with a eventually the food began to just sit in the upper portion of my stomach causing reflux. The worst part is that it can eventually come back up the esophagus and begin to go into the lungs. I chose to have the band removed. I am having the sleeve operation 1/30/17.

Yes I do on anything that I eat or drink and I'm 6 mount's out

The sleeve isn't supposed to cause that to happen, but I have heard that sometimes there is scar tissue left over after lap band removal that still gives you restriction as if the band were still there. I would definitely talk to your surgeon about what you are experiencing and see if s/he wants to investigate why this is happening to you before your revision.

I had this issue. I even had pneumonia because of the reflux and had to be unfilled for months. I never could get the restriction I previously had (honestly I was to tight but the results were amazing while it lasted). The band broke years later and no reflux since. I was planning to get sleeved but I'm hearing that because of the reflux with my band I will likely have reflux with the sleeve. Are you finding the same issue with reflux now that you've had the procedure done? Thanks.

Best to revise to Gastric Bypass (MGB or RNY) instead of Sleeve to minimize acid reflux, which is common with VSG.

I find generally that it isn't as extreme as with the gastric band. you still get that feeling or sensation, but it isnt as terrible as the lap band. if you get stuck, it will go away in a small amount of time.

I had reflux with the band but none with my sleeve. ,my surgeon waits 3 month's between band removal amd sleeving. The band was causing my reflux because it was too tight. I cant believe the difference with the sleeve. I WISH i had it years ago. I feel so normal again.

That is the best part about the sleeve! No "stuck" feeling!!! Now if you overeat, expect super urgent projectile vomiting. I have only done it twice. One time I ate rice (such a bad idea!) and one time I drank after eating. It is completely different and takes some getting used to after having lived with the band for so long. I used to have issues when eating any "clean" foods like meats and veggies. There is no longer that issue. The loss is slower than for those that went with the sleeve originally, but so worth the revision! (Even for those of us that paid out of pocket!)
