Bowels after surgery

Sorry that this is graphic but I want to know if anyone else is having horrible diarrhea. I had surgery yesterday. Today, I have horrible bloody diarrhea. I was told I would have blood in my stool because of the surgery but this is insane. Anyone else have this problem?

We have diarrhea because we are on liquids diets.

That’s not true for everyone. I didn’t have diarrhea during my liquid diet.

And on my liver shrinking prediet I am bound up tighter than Cootie Browns Goat, but with Miralax and Cherry Milk of Magnesia I'm going to make it to my surgery day! What's a little discomfort and pain for such a large gain? Gonna be worth it All!

I don't understand how one could have firm BMs consuming only liquids...

Fiber and the iron in my vitamins to fight mild anemia. Maybe not eno7gh fruits although I am eating 2 servings of cooked and raw veggies a day Its like my colon says" I finished your digestion, moved Everything down to the sigmoid and rectum. YOU figure how you're going get it,out. Not,my problem anymore! Ha Ha! And I JUST HATE a smart-speck colon., but he is original issue.Tha factory shut down. for 1945-46 models, maybe I'm a Studebaker, Hudson Hornet or a Packard. ?

My first go was a black, tarry, sandy, mess that stunk to high hell!

And yes, that black stuff is blood, so everyone else that said blood isn't normal... might want to check in with a surgeon.

With the pre-op, not everyone gets watery, I didn't. It all depends on how your body processes the liquids, some folks will just shuttle the drinks on down and back out... others (like myself) my body used all the fluid or at the very least, separated it and set it to where it should be going. I didn't go often on my pre-op.

I did not have the diarrhea issue nor did I have blood in my poo. You really need to see your Dr. my Dr. definitely did not mention anything about blood coming out of anywhere being normal.

I don’t either but it happens.

I've only been on full liquids but have had the opposite problem. I did stop taking the iron supplements temporarily to see if I can get back to normal. Always had problems when taking iron even before bypass. Once regulated I'll see if I can take them maybe every other day.

Crossing fingers that this stops for you soon!!

Because there is no fiber and basically cleaning out the residue of what's left over
I had it after I left the hospital. But my bout with it seemed to be stimulated by clear warm liquids. So I stopped eating the broth and it worked
Hope you kept your other fluids up good and high. Dehyration can be a BIG PROBLEM when you are newly operated. I would rather be a moist Terrarium plant than a ?. Once I leave my,hospital I don't want rushed back for IVs.
  • 1 month later...
And an update.:-* am still fighting the?Wars, either m6 c9lon muscles are on a vacation at My rule Beach, my diet is deficent in fiber, but I am still dancing the " 2 Miralax a day, MoM the evening of the 2nd Day" Polka. When it comes it is not hard, just not a whole lot of it. Ah, I remember the. Good Old Days when it took 2 bathroom trips to pass it All! Are those days behind me forever? This inquiring m8nd would like to know!
Corrections to above. my colon and Myrtle Beach, although with the reoccurring hurricanes the Carolinas may not be the Place,to Be in 2018.
I have IBS so that’s where my diarrhea is from! Imodium is helping but somehow I now have aHemorrhoid and a fissure. I’m taking my pain killers for the fissure! I can’t sleep it hurts so bad!
  • My heart goes out to you!! My husband has had major problems with fissures and hemmies also. He has had them removed at Dr.'s office. The stuff they removed stunk like something was dead!! His one time was the size of a softball!! Lo and behold the same thing happened to my daughter. Now I'm not sure if these tend to run in the family but it is one of the worst things to have. Now, before my RNY, I had the back door trots everyday and went poo after every meal and then in between too. Now I have constipation, and have to use MIRALAX, I used it once and awhile but sometimes it takes me 4 doses to get to go. It is really miserable for sure. For myself I would much prefer the Constipation. But...that is just me. I guess others would rather go the other way. You might try MIRALAX because it isn't a laxative at all. Just uses the fluids from your body. Again, I know how bad it can get and I hope all goes well for you.
