October Sleevers, how are you doing?

Recommended Posts

Hallelujah......down 2 lbs this morning. First real loss in 3 weeks. I am amazed how deeply this affects my happiness level. :0 I do think I have figured out how to make my Water goal. Four 16 ounce bottles of Water. Making myself finish one by 11, next one by 2, next one by 4 and the last one has to be empty by bedtime. Then I refill them for the next day. Yesterday was was the first time since the first month (when I was religiously sipping 2 ounces every 15 min.) that I have made water goal. I am guessing there is a correlation. I really hope this is the end of this stall. Yay!!!

In reply to Jellybean12, I too had a hernia repaired. My reflux is 100% gone, too. But I definitely have some weird sensations from my new digestive system. There is loud growling and an empty like sensation at random times. Sometimes food goes down easy and sometimes it sits very heavy. I think it just takes some getting used to. I still haven't felt hungry......and my tastes have changed dramatically. Can't stand coffee anymore and chocolate holds no allure for me like it used to. Very good news. Happy Day to all.

I love to hear successful stories like yours. The only issue I'm having...(sleeved 10.27) is that is so hard to swallow meat. It hurts when it goes down. After goes down its fine.. I'm a little worried. I miss good food. This is more like a mentally challenge now. But it does hurt alot.... any one with the same issue?

Yes, I have the same issues with meat. Unfortunately it has gotten worse now than it was a month ago. I sort of avoid meat, I wish it was easier. I used to love red meat, now I am struggling with it. I struggle with chicken and fish if overcooked also. Cottage cheese seems to be my saving grace these days.

Thought I was the only one struggling with chicken. I chew and chew until its mush but when I swallow it seems to get stuck.

Sleeved 10/26. Still having tightness in throat when drinking and eating. Went back to puréed and liquids for a while. Now back to soft foods. Still doing Protein shakes as i don't eat enough to meet my Protein goals without them. I have major food aversions Just the smell of some foods my boyfriend eats (cheese, fried foods, deli meats, mustard, pizza) make me nauseas and I have to leave the room.

The thing that is hardest for me is taking all the Vitamins and medicine. Once I get done with those I'm not hungry at all.

Other than that I feel pretty good, still learning my limits. I over did it working out a few weeks ago and I injured my large incision and still have some pain. Since then I have been taking it easy with light cardio ( walking and bike).

I've lost 27 pounds since surgery. I lose in waves, I'll lose five pounds then nothing for a week and a half then 8 pounds then a week later two pounds. Hoping it will steady out when my diet gets more consistent. Either way just glad the weight is going down!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

I was sleeved on 10/19 today I'm officially two months post op. I lost 49 lbs total in just about half way to my goal . I'm not meeting my Protein or liquid goals. It's so hard to try to get my fluids in not sure what to do about that. I'm on regular foods but I also seem to stick to soft foods it's just so much easier for me. I do get acid reflux sometimes not all the time. Any meals u guys would like to share ? I struggle with what to eat sometimes or really just don't have an appetite. Overall I am happy with my sleeve I feel so much better.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
