I'm 5 months out today. I have had no issues at all with food and my doctor had me on solids fairly quickly (3 weeks) post op.

I don't feel the restriction other people on here feel at 2-3 oz. I see people write about how few calories they consume and I'm like whaaaaat? I eat as much as 1300 calories a day, never less than 900 and regularly eat 4-6 oz of dense Proteins as my meals with no problem. No overwhelming feeling of fullness.

But I'm cool with that! My sleeve works great. I feel that I've been losing steadily and at a fast clip. I'm thrilled with my loss. And even more thrilled that I don't suffer from any discomfort and that I'm able to Portion Control without that factor. I honestly feel like that's how it's SUPPOSED to work. You shouldn't feel pain or discomfort everytime you eat for the rest of your life.

I'm 6 days post op. And I'm supposed to start on Protein shakes next week and start introducing solids at week 3. Today I went against my Clear Liquids and ate so much and I'm freaking out a bit.

It's easy for anyone to say stop being paranoid, but , you're not!

I was the same!

It's normal to have so many questions, doubts & emotions with having this major surgery.

It's life changing, so take each day as it comes & look to the positives & enjoy your journey

Wondering how far out you are. I was the same way til week 5. Then nerves woke up. I can eat more "slider food" but healthy good Protein dense food is hard. I'm 7 weeks

I dont want to start losing my hair, i dont wanna be sickly but my stomach always feel full. Im hoping that after this surgery im having tomorrow to remove scare tissue that has wrapped itself around the large bowels that ill be less full feeling. I cant have a bowel movement and when i do, i wanna pass out. Its all just to much but well see after the am. Wish me luck

I hope my post wasn't misconstrued. I never, ever went off my plan and ate something I shouldn't. Especially in the early stages. I was super careful to follow my doctors orders and I recommend you do that as well. Your stomach is still healing from major surgery which is why you're on a liquid diet at 6 days out. My plan progressed faster than most, but I was still on liquid at that point for sure. I recommend you speak to your doctor about what you ate- be totally truthful and get some help.

What did you eat? Like solid foods or full liquids?

Even if you feel fine it is SO dangerous to be off your plan only 6 days out.

To the OP,

I actually made a similar post. I'm not going to say recovery was a "breeze" because getting past a major surgery is never pleasant, but I also had very few of the issues others experienced. After day 3 I could get in all my fluids and Protein and could even drink Water pretty fast. I tolerated everything I tried and never vomited or had bad stomach pain. No Constipation, no incision pain (just a little itchiness). It was still VERY tough to stick to my diet plan because I didn't feel so awful and wanted to eat, but I made it through. I had 2 meltdowns where I cried out of frustration because the liquid diet was so tough.

I was also just waiting for the other shoe to drop and even now I can't totally shake the feeling that I got off too easy. I'm 7 weeks out and started solids a few days ago also with basically no problems. There are days where I feel crappy or overly tired but I mostly feel fine. I think we just got lucky!

Thanks! Incision wise I have had pain. But like you with the rest of it I have just kind a breeze through it. I mean a soon as my leak test was over and they let me start drinking Water, I drink two of those hospital containers full that day. I was having no issues keeping anything down getting in my fluids and like you anything I try now I tolerate great. So that is my fear, is that this isn't going to work, I'm going to backslide, I'm going to stretch it back out, you know all the fears that run through your mind

I do indeed, I had all the same fears but I've lost 28 lbs all together, 22 since my surgery. I started at a lower BMI so my loss is slower than others. Don't worry!

OK here is what is on my mind. I keep having this paranoia in the back of my head, what if I'm one of those 2% people, weirdos that this doesn't work for. What if I don't lose this weight and I will always stay fat even after all of this pain and sacrifice.

Things are going so super smooth. Almost so smooth, that it has me scared...

I haven't had any issues introducing the soft moist foods, and other than some pain around around my incisions I just am not experiencing some of the issues that seem very common...

So that has me in my mind wondering did it not work? I guess I'm just being a little paranoid about it.

Will you feel better if I tell you that your fears are well-founded? That you're having an easy, smooth start just so that you're lulled into a false sense of security? That there's a great, big fly-swatter hovering over your head just waiting to git ya?

I can say that because I've had the same paranoia about something-or-other, but can't recall whether it was about surgery.

You're fine. I don't know about the 2% statistic you mentioned, but, if it's true, it would be more about people who don't do the work rather than surgery not doing the work. Surgery doesn't do work; it just lays there.

You're better than fine.

Hi Tracy,

I thought I was the only paranoid one out there! haha.

My surgery was Nov 9th and I too had no pain after surgery, and no throwing up. I had an easy time and I can eat 4 ounces of food no problem.

Consider yourself lucky. I've heard some stories about people who have had a really rough time post surgery.

I was sleeved on 10-24 and I have had a rough go but things now seem to be getting better, but I completely understand about the paranoia.

I was losing weight every day and then for the this week I've been stuck. My brain just can't wrap around the whole fact that I am eating basically nothing and I'm not losing weight?

It has me thinking I'm doing this wrong or that this isn't going to work for me and I took the biggest gamble of my life and it's not going to pay off.

I totally feel you!

I had my surgery July 5. I thought some of the same things...like why don't have feel restriction after 1to 2 oz ? Or why am I starving. It's such a head game even with this wonderful tool. My advice is to keep working your program per doctor and the weight will come off. I'm losing slower than most but my BMI was lower. I am expected it. One thing I am focusing on is sticking with my new food choices and trying to make all of this a habit before my weight loss stops. To quote Dory" Just keep swimming"

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
