Hello everyone!

This is actually my first posting but I have been part of this community for a few months now. I attended my first seminar in May, met with the surgeon for the first time in August, and completed my supervised diet plan from August-October. The surgeon submitted my file to insurance on 10/31 and I was approved on 11/04! It has been a very seamless process for me and I consider myself lucky after reading some of the posts :(. I am calling the surgeon on Monday to be proactive and since it only takes 1-2 weeks for surgery (based on his schedule) once you are approved for insurance, I am hoping to get sleeved around the 16th.

My question surrounds the liquid diet for two weeks before surgery. The surgeon is not making me do a liquid diet because my BMI isn't above 50 (I'm currently at 44-45). I'm seeking feedback on whether you think I should do the liquid diet anyway. My thought it that is may make it easier to do the liquid diet post-op but I'm not sure of other benefits. Thank you all :).

My BMI was 46 and I was required to do a 1 week liquid diet. If your doctor doesn't think you need to be on one, then they probably know what's best. At this point, it is up to you on what to do. I think going on a liquid diet the day before surgery would be a good idea. The reason most doctors put people on a liquid diet, is because they're trying to shrink the liver in order to properly operate on the stomach.

Thank you both :). I'm leaning towards doing it a few days so that I get used to it for pre-op.

My doctor didn't mention the liquid diet for a day before but they might let me know on the phone when I set the actual surgery day. I contacted the surgeon's office today to let them know of my insurance approval. They said they were going to call them today to get the insurance company to fax the approval (instead of waiting for it in the mail). I'm so anxious! I can't wait!

I have to do 3 weeks on Optifast as per my surgeons instructions as he wants the liver as small as possible. I look at this as the last diet I'll go on so I am all in....and it will get me used to the decreased volume of food for the future and will hopefully lead to a faster and less painful recovery. Good luck

My BMI is just over 31 and I'm to be sleeved dec 5th. I have to do 2 weeks off Optifast before hand to shrink my liver. So it's 3 shakes and unlimited vegetables ( restricted to the non starch kind).... per day ...not looking forward to it lol

I'm in my 3rd week of Optifast. My op is on Monday, 14th Nov. I'm coping better than I had imagined. I am hungry all of the time, I'm dizzy some of the time, but otherwise I feel great. I'm also feeling more mentally prepared for the upcoming changes. I'm actually looking forward to eating real food again, albeit in tiny portions.

My preferences: avoid the chicken Soup, unless you modify it with spice and/or stock, it's not nice at all. The shakes are good; all flavours. I've just tried bars this week. They aren't too bad either. I bought the multipack for the shakes and the bars and didn't have one I didn't enjoy.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
