Looking for January 2017 sleevers

Recommended Posts

Ugh - I've been on a month long plateau! I go to the doctor on Wednesday and find out if I should still be throwing up what I eat 2-3x a week and why, if I'm doing what I'm supposed to, I'm not losing any weight.

How are you all doing?

How are all the January sleevers doing since our surgery?

Not so bad, feels great to be able to drink Water without wanting to throw up. Sleeved on 1/10/17, about 19 lbs less than sleeve day. Today is Sunday and since last Sunday, no loss. I am cool with it because many experienced a stall at 3 weeks, guess mine was at week 5. Not loving food. I don't want shakes, don't want eggs, I have to force myself and gag at some of these things. I used to only eat chicken/fish before surgery, now I don't want chicken either. I have been eating more Highlander Beef because I don't want so many things. I was dying for a salad, got a Ceasar and was able to only eat like 4 bites of romaine....weird! I feel great especially after dehydrating a couple of weeks ago. Horrible experience, fevers, chills, that week alone lost like 8 lbs. Even though no loss this week, feels great to feel good again. Will try and chug down those shakes again, starting tomorrow. ;-)

Had some complications after surgery, had some blood loss and wound up needing two blood transfusions, then my heart was racing and high blood pressure so they moved me to the cardiac floor. Spent 6 days in the hospital. But it was still worth it, lost 46lbs already.

Wow, sounds like you had a rough start. That sounds very scary. I think I would have freaked out, I went to Mexico to have it done and had to fly back by myself. I thought about complications, but kept on back of my mind. Nice loss. I am on a stall now ;-) I have been stuck for 10 days now. Not too worried, I know at some point it has to move. Glad you have lost nice amount and doing well.

Ugh...feel your pain. On day 3 my spleen decided to spring a leak. It is amazing how much the human body freaks the eff out when there is blood where it isn't supposed to be. By the end of the day I got moved down to ICU and spent like 2 days there before going back to my old room. Definitely not the start I had hoped for but doing much better now.

Have my 4 week follow up with my doc today and will hopefully be cleared to go back to most foods. As of this morning I'm down 27 lbs since surgery. All in all I'm down 45 lbs since I started the 2 week pre-op diet (so down that much over a span of 6 weeks).

I definitely would've been nervous about complications if I had it done in Mexico too. Lucky thing you didn't have any problems.
I haven't lost any more weight since the past weekend but can't really complain. Glad to hear your doing well.

The thing I hate is, every other week I have gone thru chills, low grade temps 99.4 (when I dehydrated I got to 104.7). Been fine all week and last night BAM, chills, temp 99.4, my cheeks get really red. I made sure to drink, I can't get to 64 oz. but I did have about 46 oz. I still don't really feel like eating, it's a chore. Last night I made tacos for my hub, so I cooked some of the meat (Scottish Highlander Beef-very low in fat) and I ended up eating 2 oz and half avocado. When I say chore, it's like I chew and chew and chew, and then I just can't eat any more. I have tried my fave salads, green Beans, chicken, tuna, there is nothing I really want. Guess just have to get thru these next couple of months. I did have my Protein Drink during the day, yes, I gag that down too. I used to love them and HATE them now, and I am only on week 6.

Thank god I'm not going through that! It sounds really rough. I've been holding liquids really well. When it comes to food tho that can be tricky. When I do eat (and it's like 2or3tbs) nauseous, sweats, and diarrhea for like an hour afterwards. Getting to the point where I don't want to eat.

Can't wait til we get thru a few months and get to a good point. At week 4, I would still get diarrhea quite often, thankfully that stopped. Last night I fell asleep at 6:15 woke up at 9:10, went back to sleep, up at 1:40 and went back to sleep til 5 am, back to sleep till got up at 6 am to shower and get to work. I think our bodies do require a lot of rest, it was a big part of us removed. Does take a while for it to heal no matter how great we feel at times. No chills, feel great today, so insane is the yo yo of feeling good, and freezing/chills. I read that is one of the #1 side effects, feeling cold.

Hello all! Sleeved 1/25. 26 lbs down so far. It's def a struggle to get in my fluids. Doing good if I can get to 54oz by midnight! I'm getting about 90+ of my Protein in. Doing ok-ish w my Vitamins. Def hate when I make a wrong decision and the pain I get from that learning experience. Ex: I used to love the Gordmons Cajun Fish filets. Not now. It was prob the Cajun seasoning that got me :-( All in all, things have been a lot better since about week 3. I prob do need to Fig out what else I can eat but my go to meals for when I'm at work are egg salad and tuna salad.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
