Do any of you vets completely ignore this rule?

I used to be a bartender and I know it's not preferred but I know of two people who had that surgery and drank soda and alcohol daily but I can also tell you that both of them are putting the weight they lost back on I haven't had my surgery yet but just by what I saw in them I wouldn't suggest it I quit soda 6 months ago and I crave it every day but know that I want to make this a long term goal and there is no sense going through all this just to eventually pile it back on the point is to start a new life and new ways. Best of luck and I hope that helps sway you to keeping up ur great work!!

For me. It makes me feel sluggish. Im in maintenance phase. I have had a soda once in a great while. I just prefer to have iced tea. crystal light or a zero calorie sports drink.

It's also my fear of weight gain that I choose not to have soda

No, I've tried a couple of times with carbonated drinks post-op and both times it was extremely physically uncomfortable.

Like @@Bufflehead, I tried a few times and it just doesn't agree with me.

I'm just about 2 years out and still do not drink carbonated beverages - at least not more than a sip or two. There are (and have been) plenty of times I'd love to drink a Diet Coke, Diet Cheerwine, Diet Sunkist, or Diet Root Beer, but I do not like the way the carbonation makes me feel. Once in a great while, I will take a sip or two, nothing more, of my husband's Diet Sunkist just to taste something other than our usual SF flavored Water, tea, coffee, plain Water, etc. I continue to have great restriction with my sleeve so sometimes one or two bites (or sips) too many can/will make me feel absolutely miserable for at least a hour afterwards. It's not worth it.

I truly believe Diiet Coke blows up the stomach with gas and bloating. I prefer Water, I dislike sweet drinks.

I am about a year and a half out and I still haven't had a carbonated drink. I was a Diet Dew addict before surgery and I just don't even want to open that door. Plus, all of my joints felt better after just a week away from all the chemicals in those damn drinks.< /p>

I'm three and a half years out, I've been maintaining for two and a half years and drink Coke Zero (from a straw!!) regularly. I can't drink it from a can or from bottle, but I do drink it poured over ice.

It doesn't stretch (MY) sleeve. I don't feel gassy or bloated. It hasn't caused weight gain or cravings. There is really no difference between Coke Zero and Crystal Light besides carbonation, IMO.

I waited until my doctor ok'd it. I was at least six or nine months out before I had any. For me, it wasn't a "rule".

I won't ever go back to it. I still crave DC and I probably will for a long time. Without changing anything else, when I quit DC, I lost 10 lbs, immediately. I believe the artificial sweeteners increased my joint pain and cravings for sugar. I also know someone who had the procedure who drinks coke every day, and she's gained 2/3 of her weight back. She has other bad habits too, but it contributes. I just don't want to set my self up for failure. My surgeon says "NO", and I want to do everything the right way. It's a personal decision to drink carbonated beverages, just not mine.

I have a 12 Oz Coke Zero every day. I'm 2+ years out, and so far no adverse side effects. It's really one of my only vices. Well, besides coffee :P

Edited to add: I didn't start drinking it until about a year and a half out. It hurt too much before that.

My doctor said no caffeine or carbonation. I was definitely a DEW addict but I quite 6 months prior to surgery and don't miss it at all. I had a sip of one before surgery it tasted awful.

from what I've been told the carbonation is more the potential problem then anything....

Also if you so compare it to crystal light, it really depends bc there's crystal light pure made with truvia which is stevia a natural sweet plant not artificial sweetener

Although the truvia is combined with a tiny bit if sugar alcohol which I learned also makes me sick but that's another topic

One thing to consider though is that research has illustrated that sugar vs sugar free drinks both stimulate the pancreas to produce insulin bc tge body takes it all as sugar period...

It just seems ur doing urself a disservice by drinking si called chemical filled drinks, sodas etc but if nothing else is good enough or works.. idk...it is ur body

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
