so i had hope that the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup and unflavored Protein powder would work for me. no such luck... i almost threw up. i hate it... its so nasty :( i think i am going to be fine post op because i should be able to tolerate just an oz at a time but I'm most worried about the pre op diet. my surgeon requires 1-2 weeks doing a modified diet (2 shakes, 2 Protein Bars or crisps and one meal that is high Protein high in veggies and low fat low carbs.) then a week on Protein Shakes only. its the week only on Protein Shakes that i am worried about. i think ill be able to tolerate the modified diet but only the shakes.... thats another story. i don't know if ill even be able to tolerate that much Isopure :( it leaves a weird film in your mouth. help i don't know what to do! :( :( :(

I do Protein drinks instead of shakes. I couldn't stomach the shakes. My most tolerated one is by trimino and it is the strawberry lemonade. I add a bit more unflavored Protein Powder to them so I get more protein since they are only 7 grams of protein per drink. There are also other brands that make flavored Protein Drinks with more protein in them like isopure.

I have to say, the only Protein in can tolerate is in the form of a ready made shake. Premier Protein (chocolate). It has 30 grams of Protein in 11oz.

1 gram of sugar and 160 calories.

I spent so much money on protein powders before and after surgery and just gagged on them until I found premier which I still use today 2 years later.

I am picky with protein.....the only shake I really like is the chocolate. I have tried the vanilla and strawberry but they are a bit too sweet for me.

It is strange how things change. I am with you, the only thing I tolerate and tolerate well is premier Protein chocolate. Everything else is too sweet or gritty or smelly.LOL

Before surgery my surgeon had me on carnation instant Breakfast. YUCK....talk about too much sugar.

My NUT wants me to try premier Protein. I'm hoping the pre made drinks are better. Anyone know where I can buy samples? Like one bottle of each flavor? I can get a variety pack on Amazon but it's 12 bottles and $30 dollars and I haven't even tried it yet so I don't wanna waste money.

I had surgery on the Aug 15th and I to have problems with Protein. But I worry about with you is that you really have to drink a lot of Protein after sir surgery. Not only that week before surgery but after you have like two weeks of liquids and then another couple weeks of mush and those weeks all consist of protein drinks. Also your tast change a lot after surgery. Anyway here's a picture of what I like. I must say it's not the greatest but it's something I can tolerate. The blue is horrible! I use the red one. GNC sells it or online.

Also muscle milk is good especially the banana it's more expensive but it's really good.

I've tried the Isopure. It's not horrible. I'd rather find something I like better but I'll tolerate that if I have to. My main thing about it is it leaves a nasty film in your mouth when you drink it.

Just wanted to post this for people in the future... If you go to the premier Protein website you can buy single bottles in each flavor for $2.79 each. When you subscribe you get 10% off your first order. I think I'll do this to try out the flavors! Thank goodness, I just can't justify spending $30-$40 on something that I might hate. You can get 3 single bottles for under $10!

I've ordered 4packs from drugstore.com. I've also gotten 4packs at Walmart and a drugstore (maybe Walgreens or Rite Aid?).

For a clear Protein, I liked ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates much better than Isopure.< /p>

Yes, you can get 4 packs at Walmart and some Walgreens stores.

At costco, you get 18 per case instead of 12, they are 24.99 right now which I believe is 5.00 off but that changes back to 29.99 at the end of August.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
