I have seen some vlogs where they talk about needing to give themselves shots before and 7 days after surgery to help with blood clotting. Anyone have to do this?

I did not.

I would think that would have to do with the individuals specific medical history and health vs it being a generic practice.

Blood clots were a big discussion point with my surgeon. He had me walking two hours after surgery and every 3-4 hours afterwards for the first few days.

The early walking was also a practice for two other surgeries that I had the past several years (neither was weight loss related).

Yes I had them. They're easy. Don't worry if you have them. Ideally anyone having this kind of surgery with a BMI over 30 or another comorbidity is in a higher risk category and should have at least stockings +/- injections. I'm in the UK so things might be different here.

Yes, I am doing daily enoxaparin injections for 14 days post-op. I am actually so glad that my surgeon prescribed this as one of my biggest fears going in was having a pulmonary embolism post-op. My surgeon prescribes the injections to all of his patients as long as they don't have any contraindication to taking it.

It is a relatively easy shot. Your nurse will show you how to do it before you leave the hospital. My surgeon's office actually offers to set up home health for those who aren't comfortable giving themselves shots. I took insulin for years so it was nothing new to me.

Depends on your surgery, your surgeon, your medical history, etc. I was given Coumadin in the hospital by the nurse but that was it. Nothing afterwards.

It is not a cookie cutter surgery- we are all different!

I will have to give myself blood thinner shots for 7 days after surgery per my surgeon. Its standard procedure for the program I am going through. I gave my husband his shots after his sleeve 2yrs ago and it was no big deal, very thin needle.

Ha ha. I guess this is another one of those some do and some don't thing. Thanks for the response. I just never heard it talked about in these threads and would like to be ready for whatever might happen. I guess I have a question I can ask at my next appointment

I had to have a lovenox shot each day for 30 days. However I am physically disabled and walking was not something I could do. The nurse showed me how to do the injections in the hospital. At first when I found out I had to give them to myself I didn't think I could do it. There were many things I didn't think I could do at first but I overcame them all and the shots was just another thing to add to the list. I did bruise easily from them but by the second month the bruises were healed.

I had exactly the same as madadams, stockings and injections. Nothing to worry about.

I had them 2x day for 30 days after surgery. Not a big deal. My surgeon gives it to all his patients regardless of medical history. I'm very active & have no history of anything to suggest higher risk of blood clots, but better safe than sorry!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
