My sleeve date is September 15th, so to make recovery easier I unfortunately attempted to quit caffeine cold turkey. I normally have about 2 cups coffee in the AM and maybe 1 diet coke during the day, so not a huge amount. Once I hit the 24 hour mark I basically got the flu. 7 hours of feverish vomiting and pounding headaches ensued. I asked my husband to kill me please, luckily he didn't. I finally threw in the towel and drank a soda last night. STEP DOWN....please don't make the same mistake I did!

Step down slowly, worked for me.

First do 2-3 days with 1 1/2 cups regular, 1/2 cup Decaf in morning, then go 1 cup regular, 1 cup decaf for 2-3 days, then 1/2 cup regular and 1 1/2 cups decaf for 4-5 days, then you should be nearly free.

Diet Coke.....can't help you there, never was a soda drinker.

I also stopped slowly. 1 cup a day then 1/2 cup a day then 1/4 etc. I had no headaches but was tired.

Good news is I just started again Saturday! Dr said as long as it does not bother me and is not at the expense of getting non-caffeinated liquids in then it's no problem. Doesn't taste the same though :(

I too was drinking about 2 cups of coffee a day before my surgery. As for soda I had quit drinking diet sodas 4 years ago. Slowly reducing my amount was the trick for me too. However I didn't switch to Decaf. At the beginning of Dec 2015 I cut back about a half a cup each week. By the time of my surgery at the end of Jan I had been off of coffee for about 3 1/2 weeks. I was allowed coffee again 2 months after surgery but didn't start until 3 months. You seem to have the time left to be able to take it a bit more slowly. It will make a big difference in how you feel if you do it more slowly. Good luck!

I'm a migrainer, so it's murder to try and stop caffeine cold turkey. I've been reducing myself down, and am at one latte in the morning, and sometimes a soda at lunch, but I'm trying to replace the soda with flavored Water. I don't know if I will be 100% off by surgery day, but I'm going to try. My surgeon's not as concerned about it as some, but I hate hospital coffee, and won't be able to drink soda, so I'll end up being without any caffeine for at least 2 days.

Thanks for all the advice. I talked to my coffee lady today and we're going to do 1 small coffee each day for a few days, then half-caff for a few days and then all Decaf after that.

I wish I wouldn't have even tried that this weekend, oh well live and learn. I really hope to stay off of it for good this time. This is probably TMI but my doc has been telling me for years that quitting caffeine would reduce the cysts in my breast tissue that cause me pain around that time of the month so might as well.

After caffeine it's on to sugar, which I don't think will be quite as bad.

I'm a big coffee drinker. I drink 5 or 6 cups daily easily. Giving up coffee is going to be very hard for me. Some people have comfort food. I find my comfort in coffee. A cup of coffee is magic in a cup. That first sip first thing in the morning of that freshly brewed pipping hot coffee is pure goodness. Yep I have a huge probelm on my hands. :)

O. M. G. All this time...all this time I haven't known about this! My boobs hurt so much for sometimes up to a week before my period and during and I don't get back to normal sometimes until I'm all done. I never knew it was because of my caffeine intake. I guess I might as well start cutting back.

Good luck kicking the habit. I hope it goes more smoothly now.

@@mdelicia - When I was in my 20's I had this bright idea about quitting my triggers for cigarettes first, and then quit smoking. #1 caffeine. Oh my goodness did I hurt from that one. Somethings you have to taper.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
