Genepro - too good to be true?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on May 23, 2016 and I had a really hard time in the beginning getting my Protein in. I spent tons of money trying new shakes and powders hoping to find one that didn't make me throw up. And thanks to this site, someone mentioned GENEPRO. It claimed that one scoop (1 tablespoon) is equal to 30 grams of Protein. I was elated! No more 1/4 cup scoops of nasty powder to get my protein in!

However, I'm a researchy (is that a word?) kind of gal and I decided to read up about it online and there is no hard evidence to back up their claim.

I found a site where the actual developer commented on body building threads about the validity of its product, they also had a lawyer telling random internet people to "cease and desist" slander against their product. What legitimate company responds to negative reviews by having their lawyer telling people to stop or even scours random web forums?

I kept looking online and found a YouTube video where the creator of GENEPRO talks about his powder.... This video is done in his house, in his kitchen, with low quality equipment. That's odd. He talks about how well his powder dissolves and how it doesn't change the texture of whatever it's mixed with, but if you take 1 tablespoon of any other kind of Protein Powder, it mixes just as well... Hmmm...

So, if his process of making protein molecules smaller to take up less space is actually legit, why don't more people, especially in the body building industry, use it?

I'm skeptical now...

I use GENEPRO and love it, no taste and it mixes really well in cold or hot Water. Always feel full after. The best thing to do is try different ones and decide what works best for you.. :)

I agree, no taste and it mixes well. But my concern was if I rely on it to get my Protein in, am I really getting as much as they say?

Do a search on the forum. I can't remember the specifics but there are many discussions with some legit concerns about the science behind GENEPRO.

The creators of GENEPRO live in an alternate physical universe from the one I live in . . . in my universe, a gram is a standard physical measurement of weight, and you can't get 30 grams of Protein from 20 or so grams of mysterious powder. Genepro must come from somewhere with some sort of alternate quantum physics? But I live in my universe, so Genepro isn't going to make sense for me here.

I can only say how GENEPRO helped me. I went back 2 work 2 weeks after surgery and genepro saved my life because it was the only thing I could keep down and my blood pressure started to get better after I began to take this and I still take it.

My nutritionist allows it, and honestly - that's enough for me. It helps me get my Protein in especially since the shakes are now making me feel sick.

Before that, I wonder if they created they perpetual motion machine that never lost energy due to friction.

It smells like nothing, tastes like nothing, and dissolves great. But there is just no real proof those claims are true. I would hate to assume I'm getting 30 grams of Protein when I'm truly not.

I also assume that if bariatric patients have been using it and all of their labs come back and satisfy their doctors, then it's also generally okay and doing what it claims.

No real attorney is going to pop up on internet forums. I mean I could be wrong but all my attorney type friends graduated from Top 25 schools and they would never ever.

I love when companies popup on the bodybuilding websites and show their entire ass. It is always hilarious. Quest did the same thing, which is why their name is mud with a lot of people.

There isn't a blood test to show whether you are getting enough Protein for health. The tests that measure protein in your blood show when protein is "spilling" into blood which is an indicator of certain disease/organ/inflammatory/infections conditions. It's not like Vitamin levels where you can asses deficiencies from a blood test.

Blood shouldn't really have protein in it.

Which is another reason to aim to get as much of your Protein requirement from food as possible.

Of course early put it isn't (and for many of us we continue to need to supplement) but even then I try to get my protein from many sources even the supplements, in case one isn't all it claims to be, like the Quest bars and the GENEPRO. I figure if I am not relying on that one source too heavily I'm still good because of all the other sources.

Our Protein targets are for optimal recovery and weight loss, however if you're on solid food, that Protein may be sufficient enough to show lab tests within normal ranges. Don't get me wrong, I bought it too. But after a lot of research, I feel any company that does videos in their kitchen, has lawyers reply to naysayers on Internet forums, the FDA made them change their dosage from grams to tablespoons, (which is a big red flag for protein) and it was required to list it as "approximate", - just makes me wary.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
