6 years post-op, thinking about Overstitch revision

Recommended Posts

@@chele367 When I was newly post op as you are, I followed the instructions of my doctor and nutritionist. As the years passed, I was not so strict. At about 3 or 4 years post op I stopped waiting the appropriate time to drink before and after meals. I now drink with meals as I did pre op. I mainly eat chicken and seafood. I always keep Protein powder in pantry but do not drink one daily. Those are some of the main changes. I can eat more now than I could newly post op but not nearly as much as before surgery. I feel that my pouch has stretched in that aspect but with a little more restriction, I may be able to get a handle on Portion Control again. Hope I answered all your questions! Good luck and congrats on your success thus far. Hang in there. Weight loss may be slow but it adds up. Trust me lol.

Thank you for your response. It helps us new sleevers to understand better. Being a month out I want to believe that this will work long term. Happy for your success and that you care enough to keep trying. Still recovering and a bit emotional still myself. Not meaning to sound rude to anyone so I apologize. Still learning and you know how hard core it is to get to surgery and post op. So really wound up lol. Again, wishing you nothing but success and happiness on your journey. Thanks for your honesty. M

@@Mooseknuckle Yes, when I was just a year post-op, the weight did just fall off, slowly but surely. When your are as far out as I am, not so much lol. Like I said, when I did a drastic clean eating diet, I lost about 15lb over 2months but I wasn't able to stick to it. I do it clean most of the time which is why I haven't gained an insane amount of weight but will admit to liking my snacks! Hummus and triscuits are my thing right now.

I didn't see the post that offended you but hopefully we can continue to encourage each other on this journey to being healthy.

No, no one offended me. I thought I offended you. When I reread my post I see how it reads as judgemental. Yes we are all in this battle together. Enough haters out there. We should always support one another.

Late to the party on this, but I just had this procedure done 2 days ago (a day shy of my 2 year surgiversary) due to stretching of my sleeve (100% neglect on my part)
So far feeling good and looking forward to getting back to my lowest weight and beyond!

LapGyrl- did you ever get it done?

Do you know your original bougie size? I didn't realize the sleeve actually stretched!

Did you see before and after images of your sleeve to confirm the stretch?

Not sure what the original or updated bougie sizes are, but I pushed it way beyond capacity (like an idiot) quite often to do the damage I did. I did see the upper GI barium series that I had done before we scheduled the overstitch and it very obviously had the lobe re-growing as opposed to the original tube sleeve. Thankfully my surgeon is a super nice guy, because I half expected him (rightfully) to slap me lol

Hey I'm 2 years out just about and put back 20 so far. I've doing the slider food thing sugar and carbs and yuck I feel hideous! I'm still about 90 lbs thinner than when I started this journey but I am 60 lbs to my goal weight. How I am having a hard time because I'm so damn hungry all the time

Hey there! We have very similar stats! I was doing the same thing with the carbs and sugar and got back up about 40 from my lowest when we decided to do the revision and still up like 25 when he did it. I'm down 10lbs in the past week since the procedure and so thankful to be going in the right direction again!

Good for you! I thought I knew it all and was home free to eat what I wanted....hahaha the lies we tell ourselves!

I'm back on Protein and starting from scratch before a revision. Curious about it however, I long for the days of wasted weight flying off like gang busters lmao!

No I didn't get it done because my BMI wasn't high enough. I am now around 230 smh. That's a 30lb gain since I started this thread last year. I may qualify now but I haven't looked into it any further but I will update here if I do!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
