New symptom - pain

Recommended Posts

Hello

I was banded 16 months ago and now have BMI 22. Obviously great news. About a month ago I had my band completely deflated because of reflux symptoms. But now I have a new symptom of pain.

For about a week I've had pain on eating or drinking, I can't eat more than a few mouthfuls before resting, so I don't think this is a pouch dilatation. Then there is awful epigastric pain, sometimes going through to my back. It's relieved by drinking lots of Water, though not always, and it's kept me awake at night a few times.

I wondered if it was reflux oesophagitis and bought some gaviscon advance which really helped for a few days along with a soft diet. Although last night the pain was so bad I had to get out of bed and ended up vomiting food I'd eaten a whole 6 hours earlier. Vomiting made the pain go away.

So now I'm worried I have a band slip. But in between eating and pain I mostly feel fine. Wait it out or get some advice?

Thank you!

If you had reflux with your band inflated you may have very strong gastric acids building up and eroding the lining of your stomach which could result in an ulcer. My reflux was bad before banding and had to take Prilosec daily. Once banded I had no reflux. Essentially the band cured my reflux. You could also try other OTC meds like Prilosec or Zantac. If the gaviscon helped that would make sense to me that your pain is due to reflux and hopefully not an ulcer. If this continues I would check with your doctor.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
