I'm due to sleeve in October. I'm so excited and so nervous at the same time. I was doing so well on my diet and now we are currently up north on vacation and I have started the days well but not ended them well. I am back on as of today but I keep telling myself if I can't get through this without cheating do I have any business getting the surgery? Same old mind games.

Hello,

I'm in Michigan. I have the seminar in rochester to go to July 20th at Beaumont for the gastric sleeve at Troy, Beaumont. I have Medicare only. Anyone else have Medicare? Also, do they weigh you in at the seminar? what are the steps at the seminar & there after so I know whats expected & maybe can be prepared before I go to the seminar. Whats Block testing?

Thanks

Hi, Melinda,

I can't help you with the Medicare questions, but I did go through Troy, so I can tell you about the seminar.

It's just informational - discussing surgery basics and options and giving you info on how their program is set up. They don't weigh you then, but you are given the opportunity to sign up for your first appointment after the seminar, if you wish.

No idea what block testing is. It must be a term for some testing that Beaumont doesn't do (or doesn't call it that).

She is referring to the intake. The appt when you meet with all the various disciplines take your psych eval etc.

I'm going through Beaumont royal oak. They offer block appointments ( all on one day) to see everyone however it's only allowed for certain insurances. I had BCBSM and was able to do block scheduling. Also because of my BMI I do not have to do the six-month weigh ins. I have another block appointment for July 28 and then I'll be set to meet the surgeon.

No, you are fully clothed, just like when you go to any doctor.

If you have to do a certain period of weight loss (6 months or whatever), you'll meet monthly with a medical provider and get weighed in. You will also meet periodically with a dietician an exercise therapist (to discuss exercise plans). In addition, there are many other tests that need to get scheduled, such as psychological, blood work, body scan, heart tests, etc.

Updates. Day 6 post op. I feel good. I'm not sore, gas pain has not been an issue for the last couple days. I created a eating and drinking schedule. Starting with liquids Within the first 30 min of waking. I can take all my chewable Vitamins in the am. But i take my Calcium at night.

I can tolerate about 1/4 cup of something so I have 1/4 cup cream of wheat and a 1/3 portion of Oikkos dannon greek yogurt.

After 30 min i start on my premiere Protein shake. I give myself about an hour to an 1 1/2 to get it down. Then I give myself a break for the next 3 hours only sipping on ice Water.

By lunch I'll have the remaining of my yogurt and if i can a little cream of chicken Soup. 30 min later resume sips of ice Water, popsicle, Jello over the next 3 hr break

dinner I'll have 1/4 cream of mushroom, Gerber peaches or bananas.

Sip fluids until bedtime.

Once my diet advances and i get 1 month post op I'll make adjustments by adding another premier Protein Shake to my day for a total of 60 g and the other 20-30g will come from meals and Snacks.

I will try riding my bike today with the hubby.

After the seminar you will schedule your intake appointments. You will need to see the following:

- psychologist

- dietician

-exercise specialist

-general doc

You will weigh in , get measurements, blood drawn. Depending on your health history additional testing can be ordered by the general doctor. Each specialist must sign off before you can meet the surgeon.

I am required to do another follow up visit with all the specialists before they will sign off.

After meeting the surgeon you will schedule the surgery with their office.

The timeframe will depend on your insurance requirements. Also be prepared to pay $199 for the Beaumont program. It's required for all patients in the program and its not covered by insurance.

Thanks for all your help :) I have seen my primary dr in May & had a lot of routine labs done that are normal, I womder if they'd make me go through that again? Also, when they measure you, do you have to be undressed for that? Im really weird about being heavy & undressing in front of people I dont know :( Where are they measuring you at?

Thanks

No they take you into a room and it's optional but you may take off your shoes or jewelry or other things that may add weight.

They take your BP and review your medications.

They measure you fully clothed. Neck, waist/stomach, hips.

I was only measured once but each month they weigh you check your bp and review medications.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
