@@sassysleeved hey girl, I'm doing good. Some days are better than others in terms of meeting my Protein and Fluid goals but I'll keep working at it.

I've had no issues really, just learning to work with the sleeve I have to remember to slow down. I get that lump in my throat feeling sometimes usually when i haven't eaten in awhile.

I'm now 6 weeks post op I'm down 29 lbs, I have an appt Monday so im hoping for another 1-2 lbs for an even 30. I started regular foods yesterday so I'm happy!

I'm glad to see the Michigan board still going strong I'll be here more often. How are you doing?

Hello!

I'm still working my way through the process...... I'll be having my surgery at Henry Ford Hospital with Dr. Carlin. I've completed my blood work, psych evaluation, lost the weight to meet surgeon's goal, met with my surgeon, surgical clearance testing done. I already have the insurance approval. I only need at this point to meet with the GI doctor and get an EGD done. My surgeon said I didn't need to meet with him again before surgery and that I could see one of the nurses to go over everything because I'm on track with everything else. So..... Just waiting.

Yes I'm glad the MI board is active. Let's keep it that way! I have hopefully my last weigh in with Beaumont on 8/24. I was approved to meet with the surgeon so that's on 8/29. If all goes well my surgery should be at the end of September!

Had my 1st appt with the Dr. at Beaumont in Rochester last Friday. She said she expedited me seeing the psych dr & to get the results so hopefully I can have surgery Possibly October, if not, November. Really nice office staff. I came in with clearance from my primary care Dr & from my cardolilogist as well as previous testing I've had done. Also, 4 of my family members have had this surgery so I told her I've been ready to have this done & with Medicare you don't have to have the 6 month weight loss under a physician so with all that said she expedited my Psych appt & the results to get from those to her as that is what takes the longest she said.

Hi ladies, I had my sleeve at RO Beaumont with Dr. Krause on March 25, 2016. It's been a little over 12 weeks and I'm down from 215 to 164. I feel great but the mental part of this journey is NO JOKE. I still struggle with the "loss of my coping mechanism"- food. My relationship with food has totally changed (it had to). It's no longer all that fun to eat, it's more of a necessity to fuel my body and brain. Good luck to all of you! That's funny what you say about Rachel- I met her for the first time last month and when she asked me my goal weight, I said 145 (I'm 5"3") and she said, " that's way too low". That's the first time anyone on the ROB team ever said that to me. Anyway, I'm doing me and losing what my body allows, I'm not focusing on a number or what she said. :) also I went thru the St. Clare Shores Beaumont team for my 6 month diet/nutrition appts. It was closer to my work and easier to go straight there after. I went to RO w/ Krause because that's who a coworker went with and he was pleased. I'm very happy with Dr Krause.

Congratulations on your success

Hi Everyone!

Im scheduled for the sleeve September 23rd with Dr. Hawasli. I feel comfortable with him as my surgeon but I am self pay so he is performing the surgery at the Dearborn Surgery Center to keep the cost down. He brings is own surgery team with him there. Anyone have any experiences here?

It was great! I really liked him. Very easy to talk to. The 31st was my original appointment with Dr. Carlin but there was a cancellation and since I was done with the pre req stuff they asked if I wanted it. My friend and coworker had Dr. Genaw years ago. She said he was awesome! Funny and so down to earth. Did you write your letter of intent? How about your food journal? I have an appointment with the GI Dr. on the 30th. I hope I can get the EGD done soon. I feel like that's what's slowing me down.

I had Dr Hawasli and my surgery went very smooth and I have had zero complications. I had my surgery done at St John so I'm not familiar with Dearborn surgery center.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
