Why are people relying on those providers that know nothing about what complications a Bariatric patient may be experiencing??

I don't get it- the only time I had a "problem" the first and only person I contacted was my surgeon- and was seen immediately by him after speaking with him in the phone.

The ONLY person anyone post op- especially this soon after surgery - any of us need to speak with is our SURGEON. They are the experts. Mine does his own EGD's. Emergency departments are there to facilitate emergencies and if it is a Bariatric surgery emergency they should be contacting your surgeon ONLY.

Second guessing anything post op does nothing but delay necessary treatment, or possibly allaying your worries.

Go to your surgeon ladies and gents. That's what you paid them for and if it isn't Bariatric related they will get you to who you need to see.

@@LisaMergs I agree but some don't have local surgeons.

Understandable, but we all need to be conscientious enough to make provisions for such instances.

reason I called for ambulance is because it was an emergency how I was feeling and the fluids they gave me did help me and gave me the strength my surgeon is further from my house so I had emergency so I took the closest that could help me because it's better to be in an hospital than to be home waiting for someone to be available to take me to my surgeon. then I had someone available to bring me to my surgeon and they told me the stuff they gave me was good and there suggestion the emergency room gave me was correct as well is to check in with my surgeon. but I disagree with emergency room being completely useless because they gave me fluids and medication that they also gave me at my surgeon hospital.

I'm 7 weeks post op Sleeve and I been sick for 5 days straight haven't been able to eat or drink anything, anything I try to intake I throw up. Has this happened to anybody? I feel so miserable and don't know what to do? I been to the hospital and they gave me fluids and some medicine and I still don't feel better. if I would of known it was like this before I gotten it I would of never gotten this surgery, went from being so excited to so depressed.

Are you sick like you have the flu or something or is it just eating/drinking is making you sick? If it's the flu or something, it sucks, I know :( The best thing to do is have some sugar free popcicles. You eat them slowly- but they will keep you hydrated. If you are getting sick from eating/drinking your surgeon should be able to give you some meds to calm stomach spasms etc. I was on those right after surgery to help so that I was able to eat/drink without getting sick and throwing up. I hope you are feeling better soon :)

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well and feeling regretful. It isn't normal although feeling crappy for most is. I pray your physician finds the cause so you can be well on your way to recovery. At the end it will be worth it, I promise. :)

LisaMerg, you are correct. As a matter of fact, my surgeon tells you that unless it is a life-threatening emergency (chest pain, SOB, etc), then he wants you driving back to the ER in the hospital where he did your surgery.

You did the right thing. Electrolyte imbalances can be very serious. The ER can easily call your surgeon. Wishing you a speedy recovery

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
