I have used a CPAP for about 8 years. Cannot sleep without it! I am taking it to the hosp with me....it's my best friend! :-)

Sometimes I feel as if the air blowing out is too hard and I get overwhelmed. Maybe it's all in my mind. I mentioned it to the tech and she said that's what the doctor ordered and that I'll get used to it. Did you experience that the first time you used your machine? What type of mask do you use?

I use a nasal mask...does not cover my mouth since I was not a mouth breather. I was "diagnosed " by my husband when he told me it was scary when I would stop breathing at night! I was always tired and sleepy. I still pooh poohed yhe idea of sleep apnea til it was proven with a sleep study. I did not want a CPap! However..I didn't know how bad I felt til I got my CPAP and actually got real deep sleep! Can't go without it now. You should try different masks to see what works best for you and I think you will be surprised at how much more energy you have when you wake up after sleeping well.

@@VeroN86 Did they allow you to try different masks? I felt that say with the nasal pillow and full mask). I also start mine with a gradual delay - working up to my level over 20 mins and that helps alot. What machine do you have?

I'll do you one better. I have cpap & a bpap machine. I had stopped breathing at least 18 times & everyone wants to know why I'm having the sleeve June 24th. They just don't get it.

18 times is that considered mild? I have mild sleep apnea and the doctor says I stop breathing 52 times

@@VeroN86 Look at the "Ramp" setting on your machine and set it so you gradually get up to the pressure set. That helped me get used to it faster. Also - make sure your humidifier setting is on and adjust for comfort. Have you heard from the sleep clinic about your usage? I used to get calls all the time and even texts when I hadn't used it one night (kind of creepy "they" know).

How many times per hour did you have an apnea event? That's where mild/moderate/severe is. Your 52 # must have been total - where the 18 was probably per hour. Over 30 per hour is severe.

I found that adjusting my humidifier settings helped a lot. Doctor said 52 total . I get texts all the time too lol

Guess what? I just used my machine for 6 hours straight! I feel really good right now. I haven't had good sleep in two years!!! I'm going to try and use it longer tonight.

Glad to hear that you are getting used to the cpap machine. I've had one for years. I hated the thing so much as first but loved how much better it made me feel. I can't sleep without it now.

You definitely won't be wearing it during surgery but be sure to bring it to the hospital. You will want to use it after the surgery.

Thank you! I used to hate wearing it but now I love it and I feel better in the mornings. I can't wait to get the insurance approval which may take up to 2 weeks to get an answer. Did you have the surgery? Or are you in the process of getting it?

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
