I have lots of questions...

Recommended Posts

I'm having my surgery, gastric bypass, April 28 in Mexico. I want to start the pre op diet this week to make sure I don't screw it up. What diet has everyone done? Just shakes all day? 2 shakes and a salad? What types and brands of shakes? What Vitamin supplements does everyone use? Anyone use the Patches? If anyone has a daily schedule they used for the pre op diet that would be helpful also. I've read countless articles and websites and all can be just a little different. Any other helpful info you want to share would also be greatly appreciated.

I use Premier Protein drinks post surgery, 30 grams of Protein per drink I buy mine at costco. But on my pre-surgery diet I was told to stay between 900-1200 calories per day.

Breakfast = 250 calories = Protein shake with piece of fruit

lunch = 250 calories = 1 low calorie Protein Shake with 1 C raw or 1/2 C cooked vegetables

snack = 150 calories , maybe 1 piece fruit or 1 serving nonfat dairy

dinner = 350 calories

example 3 oz lean meat, 1 C raw or 1/2 C cooked veggies, 1 serving of whole grains

Hope this helps a little .... it seems all requirements vary depending on doctor :)

Good Luck !!!!

I also drank Premier Protein for my preop diet. I had two of those a day, which gave me 320 calories and 60 grams of Protein, and then for dinner a small healthy meal like 3 ounces of chicken or turkey and a cup of veggies. I also doubled my Water intake that entire week because the more hydrated you are for surgery, the better! I lost ten pounds that week.

I haven't had my surgery yet, but from what I understand it's entirely based on your doctor's preference. Not all doctors give you a pre-op diet.

What has your surgeon told you to do?

I am getting ready to start mine in a couple of days and just wanted to say thank you for the suggestions! Seeing that makes me a little less overwhelmed!

I feel like I am kind of on my own in it too. The surgeon's office just said to stay under 1000 cals for 7-10 days and that's it. Maybe we can keep in touch as we go through it and help each other because at this point I think I'm more nervous for the pre op diet than surgery!

Well I started my pre op diet today. I totally forgot I had left over shakes from my failed attempt at Isagenix last year. So 2 of those and I had broth for dinner from some wonton Soup I ordered a couple days ago and didn't eat. Tomorrow I'll go to the two shakes and a salad with lean Protein for dinner. I guess I'm doing this.

      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
