Plantar Fasciitis

Recommended Posts

I am sorry, @@rydersmama! Plantar fasciitis is one of the most painful injuries! The good news is that usually it’s not a “serious” one that destroys your body permanently.

The others have good advice. Use the frozen Water bottle, stretch your foot, toes, calves, and hamstrings, and wear good shoes. Yes, some people struggle with it for a LONG time, but you can do yourself a favor by doing your therapy – stretch and ice – a TON. Do it several times a day, as many times as you have time for, and you will almost certainly see results. The people who don’t see results are often the ones who only try it for a few days and aren’t serious about it. It takes a long time, but you can ice and roll your foot whenever you’re sitting – even eating dinner or in the bathroom, and stretch whenever you’re watching TV or reading.

Good luck! I know it’s super painful.

I had it for quite awhile a couple years pre-op. My Dr recommended ASTYM therapy. Plantar fasciitis is when the plantar tendon becomes attached to the foot's facia in not so ideal ways. ASTYM therapists use tools to scrape up and down your foot basically ripping the plantar away from the facia, lengthening it. When new facia connects are made, the plantar tendon is in a lengthened state and you no long feel the pain.

I'm not going to kid you, ASTYM therapy hurts like a mo-fo, but it is only temporary. I went in for 6 sessions, I believe. Haven't had a problem since.

I have heel Spurs as well. The best thing for me was getting custom orthotic inserts for my shoes. I wore them nearly every day in the beginning, but now I can get away with wearing them 2-3 days a week without pain.

Sketchers all have a lot of arch support, which really helps. All of my shoes are Sketchers now. Work shoes, casual shoes, athletic shoes. Everything except my crocs which I just wear around the house for support. By doing that, I haven't had a flare up in years.

No fun, I had plantar fasciitis last summer and my feet hurt so much I would soak them in ice baths every night. I found rolling the bottoms of my feet on a golf ball helped, too. I also went to a local running shoe store and had someone help me pick out sneakers for my foot type and under/over pronation, along with some inserts for extra padding. Eventually it felt better on its own.

I had that with my left foot several years ago and it lasted for what seemed like forever! I suffered for a good 18-24 months with it. My doctor prescribed Motrin, which really didn't help much. I found that crocs, with the really soft footbed was the only shoes I could tolerate. It eventually went away. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

Ohh....real Crocs, not the cheap knock-offs.

I think the chung shi dux are even better (had real crocs before), especially the dux sensitive (I have both and the sensitive are even thicker and provide more cushioning).

I had plantar fasciitis for almost a year. I developed it from playing league tennis at least 3 times a week. The pain was excruciating. I think you will find that shoes, inserts, exercises, stretching etc. will only make it a little better over a long amount of time. The best solution is to either pop it by continuing to use it excessively or have the surgery. The surgery does the exact same thing as popping it. They go in and cut it and let it heal naturally. It will now be longer and not provide any more pain.

Here is the best part. It heals very very fast!! I was in a boot for less than a week. I was even back on the courts in around 2 to 3 weeks. My wife and another person I know also did the exact same thing with the exact same results. I guarantee, your feet will like new!! It wont matter what shoes you were at all anymore or what activities you do! No more pain since! Best thing that ever happened to my foot!!

I had it and used a tennis ball to run around my foot. It quickly settled down.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
