So as I creep closer to the puréed food stage I am researching recipes for purse and beyond. I'm Italian so Pasta WAS a way of life for me. Now that I can no longer have it and will not have it I'm thinking about the sauce. I would happily eat just the sauce with a spoon.

So, I need to ask my nutritionist but what's with sausage? I use Italian sausage in my spaghetti sauce.

Maybe I need to modify my methods....

There are alternatives for bariatric recipes. You can use spaghetti squash to replace Pasta.

Sweet Italian turkey sausage.

This is a recipe I tried.

Peel and sliced egg plant. Dip in egg wash and coat with garlic Parmesan cheese. Bake until golden brown

coat a cupcake pan with cooking spray

First layer - spaghetti sauce

2nd layer- Eggplant Parmesan

3rd layer - spaghetti sauce

4th layer - sweet Italian ground sausage -

Top with mozzarella cheese.< /p>

I am Italian too and Pasta was a way of life for me. We had it 2 to 3 times a week in different recipes. I am nearly at goal and have tried it. Spaghetti with meat sauce was my all time favorite dish from the time I was a tiny little girl and right up until I started the prep diet.

I have tried it now on 3 different occasions and I hate it! I absolutely hate it. The texture, the chew and how it feels in my pouch. You have no idea how happy I am that I hate it. One of my favorite things to do was to eat cold Pasta right out of the fridge! I have been released from that bad habit.

I can still eat a little pasta in Soup but that is about the only way.

Now, I still make chicken cacciatore, baked meatballs marinara, Italian sausage and peppers, chicken parmesean as well as many other Italian Proteins. I always make a veggie or a salad and both for my family but have removed most of the starch from our diet, even for them. They get a starch once or twice a week.

I have also made chicken, veal manicotti al forno and it is delicious. I use fresh pasta and will eat the meat inside. My family would shoot me if I stopped making this dish, I make it about twice per year and plan my food around it for that day. I will make them fresh Italian garlic bread. That is the hardest for me to stay away from. I can easy well toasted bread. Occasionally if I have room in my food budget I will try a tiny bite or two of garlic bread.

Not sure whether it's available at your local grocery, but we get Turkey Store Italian -seasoned ground turkey and have used it in place of Italian sausage for years.

Thank you!

One of my most fond childhood memories is my Nonna letting me have a taste of her sauce as it simmered on the stove for hours until dinner.

For lunch I would have a small bowl of sauce with bread to dip.

A small bowl of my Nonnas sauce is hands down my favorite food ever!

Djmohr- what type of sausage do you use? Regular Italian sausage (pork) or do you go for the turkey Italian sausage now?

I have Italian sausage, but he didn't come from the butcher shop...just the US Navy.

To actually contribute to your question. I eat lean sausage, turkey or chicken sausage, or on occasion just regular sausage. Apparently I am a sausage sl*t.

When I do eat Pasta (very rarely) I use Barilla's Protein Pasta and only can eat a couple bits of it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
